Kathy, 66, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at her home in Verndale, MN.
Kathy Hanlon was born to James and Shirlee (Johnston) Hanlon on January 4, 1959, in Shakopee, MN. She graduated from Wadena High School with the Class of 1977 and studied Culinary Art at the Vocational School in Staples. Over the years she worked in food service for Bell Hill Recovery Center and for 40 years at Tri-County Hospital, both in Wadena. She took pride in her work and enjoyed helping people
Kathy met Wayne C. Larson through a mutual friend, and they were married in 1985, at the Thomastown Covenant Church in rural Staples. They were kindred spirits and shared a special life together for 40 years. Away from work, Kathy loved all her dogs and cats. She always enjoyed working on word finds and jigsaw puzzles. Kathy was especially fond of spending time with family, celebrating the addition of each new baby, and sending cards for birthdays or special occasions. "Birthdays won't be the same without her."
Preceding Kathy in death were her parents, Jim and Shirlee Hanlon; stepmother, Shirley Priebe; and nephew, Daniel Rogenes.
Kathy is survived by her husband, Wayne; Wayne's sister, Melody (Kurt) Goodenough; siblings: Debbie Pilgrim, Cindy (David) Rogenes, Jim (Shelly) Hanlon, Kevin Hanlon and Bill Hanlon; 12 nieces and nephews, and 26 great nieces and nephews.
Serving as casket bearers will be Terry Perius, Lance Perius, Wayne Perius, Kevin Hanlon, Bill Hanlon and Jim Hanlon.
