Kathy Louise Mentink, 72, of Fond du Lac, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2025, with family by her side after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on December 2, 1952, in Madison, the daughter of James and Beverly (Breiby) Fish. Kathy was a graduate of La Follette High School and later in life earned a bachelor's degree from Marian University. Kathy retired from Society Insurance in 2017 after 23 years of work and making many special friends. On March 23, 1974, Kathy married Scott Mentink in Madison.
Kathy had many talents including bowling. For several years, she was part of the women's all star team and later the senior team. One of her most memorable achievements was being selected to bowl against the legendary professional bowler Walter Ray Williams Jr. In a stunning display of her talent, Kathy came incredibly close to defeating him, losing by only a single pin.
When summer would come, Kathy would enjoy her other favorite hobby of being on the golf course. She had the pleasure of golfing with many special groups of friends throughout the years.
But above all else, Kathy cherished the moments spent with her family especially on the chain of lakes in Manitowish Waters. For 51 years straight, Kathy adored this precious time in a place that held a special spot in her heart.
Kathy is survived by her husband, Scott of 51 years; three children, Tyler, Brett (Katie) and Chelsea; six grandchildren, Baron, Breahna, Madden, Lawson, Mya and Ramsey. She is further survived by her brothers Scott (Mary) Fish, Steve (Connie) Fish, sister-in-law, Terry Akers, nieces, nephews and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Beverly; sister, Karol Harris; her in-laws Jim and Cora Mentink; brother-in-law, Mike Akers.
Kathy's warmth, kindness, and infectious laughter touched the lives of many. Her ability to make others feel welcome and loved was one of her greatest gifts. She will be remembered as a woman of strength and compassion. A celebration of Kathy's life will be held on April 12, 2025, from 2-6pm at Avenue 795,795 Fond du Lac Ave, Fond du Lac. We invite you to join us for food, drinks and to honor Kathy's life. Your presence is the only gift we need.
