Kathy Murphy, known as a local angel, went to be with Jesus and gained her angel wings on Thursday October 17, 2024. She went from singing in the local choir at Coolidge Baptist to singing in the Celestial choir.
Kathy's smile could light up a room. She beautifully reflected Jesus to those around her. She was a special beauty, who was crowned Miss Thomasville of 1969 and went on to compete in the Miss Georgia Pageant with her guitar and beautiful singing voice. She was the owner of Kathy's Shoes since 1986. Kathy was classy and sassy with great taste, helping every woman feel beautiful in a new pair of shoes. The store is still one of the longest-standing businesses in downtown Thomasville. Many people felt that she was the "heart of downtown", with her Yorkies by her side. Kathy had an amazing ability to connect with people. She made everyone feel seen, known, and loved – and was often found praying with her customers. Kathy seemed to always know what to say and when to say it.
At the true heart of Kathy was her family. She loved nothing more than spending time with them. Her kids knew her as "Mama", to her grandkids she was known as "Gee", her brother knew her as "Doodle", and she was "Sweetheart" to her husband.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents Mack and Louise Parrish. Her surviving family members include her husband, Jimmy Murphy; brother, Bobby Parrish; children, Shelly Barry (David), Shane Rehberg (Nicole); grandchildren Evie Toth, Mary Toth, Harper Rehberg, Luke Rehberg; bonus children, Kirk Murphy (Tammy), Chad Murphy (Jamie), Kim Parrish (Ben); bonus-grandchildren, Nick Murphy (Madison), Connor Murphy, Maggie Contreras (Carson), Joseph Parrish, Daniel Parrish, Ryan Parrish, and 3 great-grandchildren.
A service will be held on Tuesday, October 22nd at 11 am at Allen & Allen Funeral Home Celebration of Life Chapel. The family will receive friends on Monday, October 21st from 5-7 pm at Allen & Allen Funeral Home.
