Katherine Marie Thomas was born on November 12, 1954, in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Rolland and Karen (Baxter) Jacobsen. She grew up in Missouri Valley, Iowa and graduated from Missouri Valley High School in 1973. She then attended cosmetology school and was a beautician for 30 years, most of which were at her salon, The Golden Comb. Kathy married Bruce Thomas on August 10, 1979. They were blessed with three daughters Tanya, Karan and Cheryl. Kathy later managed the Logan Missouri Valley Country Club and Gurney's Lounge.
Kathy enjoyed following her favorite local bands High Heel And The Sneakers, Acoustic Groove and High Heel The Band. She was the number one fan of her children and grandchildren, rarely missing a concert or sporting event they were participating in. She was a second mother and surrogate grandma to many including Maddox's Blair Cubs Baseball Teammates. Her strength, courage and positive attitude were admired and will live on in the hearts of everyone who was blessed to have known her.
