Kathy Lane Moore Thompson, 72 of Sylva, passed away Thursday, July 24, 2025. She was born in Jackson County, NC, on May 2, 1953, to the late Theodore and Lorene Calhoun Moore. Kathy enjoyed crafts, reading, writing, and spending time with her family.
Kathy is survived by her daughters, Trinity Pokusa (Tom E.), Miranda Thompson (John Biggerstaff), Brittany Mahaffey (Sean); grandchildren, Savannah Brooke, Thomas Hugh, Bradley Alex, Holly Noelle, Sage Maddox Stoeppelwerth, Maisie Heather, Lochlan Sean; brother, Tim Moore. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to her parents, Kathy is preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Hugh Phillip Thompson; daughter, Melanie Brooke Thompson; granddaughter, Melanie Lorene Stoeppelwerth; brothers, Ted Moore, Joey Moore; sister, Anne Cope.
A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00pm on Saturday, August 2, 2025, in the chapel Appalachian Funeral Services. Burial will follow at Fairview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 11:00-12:00pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
