Katie Campbell-Jones Obituary

Our beloved Katie N. Campbell-Jones was born on August 4, 1937, in Thomasville, Alabama, to Douglas Burden, Sr. and Juanita Pritchett. Affectionately known as Ma, Mother, Momma Campbell, or Momma Jones, she grew up on what was lovingly called "Campbell Hill." Though surrounded by a large family, Katie carried an independent spirit from an early age.
After graduating from Thomasville High School, she ventured to New Orleans and later moved north to Boston with her sister-cousin, Thelma Lawrence-Rogers (who later became Thelma Claiborne). It was in Boston where she would form lifelong friendships, including the one with her best friend, Joyce Bailey. They shared a bond full of good times and laughter, which they shared as recently as a few months ago.
Katie was no stranger to hard work. Over the years she held positions at Boston's Mass Eye and Ear Hospital, Polaroid Corporation, and finally at Joseph Pollak Corporation, where she proudly contributed to manufacturing toggles and switches for the Armed Forces until her retirement in the early 2000s. She also gave her time to civic life-volunteering in Charles Yancey's political campaigns in 1979 and 1981, and later with ACORN, where she worked tirelessly to support low- and moderate-income families through efforts in voter registration, healthcare, affordable housing, and community safety.
A woman of deep faith, Katie was a devoted member of Greenwood Memorial Methodist Church in Dorchester, Massachusetts. She was active in the United Methodist Women's Auxiliary and supported the Youth After-School and Summer Programs. Always ready to lend a hand-whether setting up, cleaning up, or encouraging others-Katie's warmth left its mark on everyone she met. Her cheerful greetings, "Hey baby," "How you doing baby," and "What's up baby," became part of her legacy of kindness. She lived with sincerity, joy, and a spirit that embodied the command to "Love thy neighbor." Her guiding reminder was always: "Leave it to Him." "Leave it to the Lord." "He'll take care of everything."
Up until her final days, Katie continued reaching up towards the Lord. Now she is Home, serving Him in eternal peace.
Katie leaves to cherish her memory her son, Randy Carlos Campbell, and daughter, Medina Nichole Jones; 6 grandchildren: Randy Rashaun and Sasha Nichole Campbell-Fitzpatrick, Avery Ezekiel Campbell, Immanuel Issachiah Jones, Hasina Sarai Whittaker, and Jayna Avali Petersen; and 4 great-grandchildren (with a fifth, a young king, expected in Spring 2026); Cameron Jordan Dixon, Reizyn Lula and Royal Treasure Campbell-Fitzpatrick, and Randy Rashaun Campbell-Fitzpatrick, Jr.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents; her sister, Evelyn Ann Pritchett; her brother, Osie Pritchett, Jr., and her husband, with whom she shared a meaningful union, Yeudall (Rudy) Jones. Katie is survived by her loving sister, Bernice Pritchett King of Birmingham, Alabama, along with a devoted host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will continue to honor her legacy.

My beloved First Cousin, Mrs. Katie Campbell-Jones blessed me tremendously with her abiding faith in God and her warm personality. Greenwood Memorial Church in Dorchester, Massachusetts was the first church I worshipped at regularly when I moved to Boston to join my oldest sister, Mrs. Thelma Lawrence-Claiborne. I will always cherish the joy of attending Greenwood, just a block from home at the time. God bless and comfort Randy, Medina, family and friends. Forever, I will lovingly remember my Cousin Katie´s encouraging words, her love of God, family, and sweet-smelling bubble bath. Love, Alice V. Lawrence
