Katie Bell Channell passed away peacefully on August 30, 2025 at Aspire in Northport, Alabama.
She was born April 12,1922 in Tuscaloosa County to Vero H. and Virgil A. Channell, and was predeceased by her parents and her only sibling, James V. Channell.
An enthusiastic genealogist and world traveler, Katie is survived by an extended family. She knew every branch of the extensive family tree for the Shirley family.
A near life-long resident of the family home "Chaney Park" on the old Eutaw highway, she was a childhood member of Unity Baptist Church, before joining First Baptist Church Tuscaloosa with her family as an adult. She spiritually embraced all aspects of Christianity.
As a graduate of Tuscaloosa High School, Katie retired from First National Bank Tuscaloosa where she was an assistant to George Shirley and later, Dick Edwards. Tuscaloosa Memorial Funeral Home will handle all the arrangements for a private burial in the family plot at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park.
An appropriate memorial will be planned at a later date.
Heartfelt appreciation is extended to all the many friends, doctors, and individuals who assisted and visited "Miss Katie" the last decade of her remarkably long life. She was truly blessed and eternally grateful!
In lieu of flowers, memorials are recommended to the Second Hand Rose Ministry at First Baptist Church, Tuscaloosa; or Hospice of West Alabama.
