Mrs. Katie Mae Stevenson Thomas, age 88, of Rocky Mount, North Carolina transitioned on Sunday, June 29, 2025 at Nash UNC Health surrounded by her loving family.
Katie Mae Stevenson Thomas was born April 1, 1937 in Wilson County, North Carolina to the late Loney Bell Stevenson and Curtis Stevenson. She departed this earthly life on June 29, 2025 at Nash UNC Hospital in Rocky Mount NC surrounded by her loving family.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years Oliver Wendell Thomas.
Katie was a hardworking woman who spent many years dedicating herself to caring for others. She had a nurturing spirit and generous heart. In her free time she enjoyed playing bingo and cards and especially loved spending time with her friends and family.
A women of deep faith, Katie was a devoted church goer and will always be remembered for her wisdom, strength and kindness. She had a gift for making everyone feel welcome if you ever needed a place to stay, her home was always open offering warmth, comfort and love.
Katie leaves behind a lifetime of precious memories and lasting legacy in the heart of those who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Loney and Curtis Stevenson; Four sons; Willie Curtis "Pean" Stevenson, Clinton Norris Stevenson (Barbara), Joseph Neil Stevenson "Spanky" (Sandy) and Keith Alphonso Thomas (Darnett); two grandsons; Willie Curtis Stevenson Jr. and Kaseem Brown.
She leaves to cherish her memories to one daughter; Loney Katie Lewis (Algeron) Of Rocky Mount NC, five sons; James Jimmy Stevenson (Venetta), Victor James Stevenson (Jackie), Kemo Disun Thomas (Marie) all of Plainfield, New Jersey, Charlie Ray Thomas of Rocky Hill, Connecticut and Oliver Wendel Thomas Jr. of Greensboro, NC. Thirty-two grandkids; Rasheeda Nicholson, Trina Christina Tyler (Derek), Clinton Stevenson Jr., Quadir Stevenson, Asmar Thomas, La'Trina Monroe, Nakita Stevenson, Saquan Palmer, Tiffany Johnson, Theron Johnson, Lechez Stevenson, Khaisha Thomas, Tasheema Thomas, Nahdyir Thomas, Ahlaina Brown, Alkeem Thomas, JhaTyra Thomas, Keith Thomas Jr., Keyshawn Stevenson, Dashawn Brown, Lalkey Hillman, Shakia Pettiford, Shevroy Green, Flaurene Green, Rayonnah Bates, Denise Bates, Rikquil Bates, Danny Heyward, Rashawn Heyward, Dyshawn Heyward, Nick Heyward, Ju Heyward, Nicole Outlaw and Joseph Outlaw, 75 great grandkids,14 great great-grandkids, a wonderful stepdaughter Lorraine Booker, a special nephew Perry Abner "Pistol" and a special cousin Terry Thomas "My Boy" as she affectionately called him; and a host of relatives and friends.
A Visitation will be held for Mrs. Thomas on Saturday, July 12, 2025 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Foster Memorial Baptist Church, 1911 South Church Street, Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Funeral services will follow the visitation beginning at 11:00 am. Interment will immediately follow the service in the Gardens of Gethsemane in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.
