After extended illnesses, Katie Mae Carver Woodall — loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend — had a glorious day on October 20, 2025: the day she saw Jesus face to face.
Born on October 2, 1948, in Rabun County, Georgia. Katie was preceded in death by her beloved husbands, Claude Vernon Giles and Tommy Woodall; her cherished sons, Matthew Seth and Joshua Thomas Woodall; her parents, Buster T. and Leona Thomas Carver; and siblings Jo Ann Carver Chastain, Hilda Carver McLucas, Earline Carver Benefield, and John Zeb Carver.
She is survived by her daughter, Claudette Giles Gillespie (Rance), and her son, John Paul Woodall. She leaves behind her treasured grandchildren: Kennedy Gillespie, Geoffrey Ledford, and Taylor Woodall Shrode. Katie is also survived by her loving sisters, Mary Jane McCoy, Claudia Dodgins, Brenda Gass, Phyllis Ramey, Faye Partain (Steve), and Kaye Collins (David), along with numerous nieces and nephews who adored her.
Katie's life was full of love, laughter, and the grace of God. She endured more than her fair share of hardship, but her unwavering faith and deep love for her family never faltered. She found joy in the Braves, the Georgia Bulldogs, and any team her son-in-law was coaching.
Her sense of humor was truly legendary — she could recall and retell every joke she ever heard, always ready with a laugh. If you hear thunder in the days to come, it’s just Katie keeping Heaven in stitches.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at 11:00 am at Clayton Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Rogers officiating. Interment will follow in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 23, 2025, from 5-7 pm at Hunter Funeral Home.
