Kay Lenore Crabtree Munsch passed away June 15, 2025 at Riverview Place in Fargo under the care of Hearts in Action Hospice.
Kay was born January 16, 1937, to Benjamin Forrest Crabtree and Harriet Caroline Zempel Crabtree at Aberdeen, South Dakota.
Kay was a graduate of Ellendale High School and Ellendale State Teachers College with a Bachelors Degree. She married Jack Munsch on August 2, 1959, in Christ the King Lutheran Church at Ellendale, North Dakota.
Kay was a devoted teacher of many piano and elementary students in Kulm and Oakes, North Dakota. Following retirement, Kay and her husband Jack enjoyed eight years of travel.
Kay is survived by son Four-Star Admiral Stuart Benjamin Munsch, USN, daughter-in-law Elizabeth Paula Munsch, grandson Stuart Harold Munsch, granddaughter-in-law Dara Lyn Horn, Munsch and granddaughter Amanda Elizabeth Munsch.
Kay is also survived by daughter Stephanie Marie Elsner, son-in-law Brett Lynn Elsner, granddaughter Shante' Xiao Min and granddaughter Cherie' Zhou Wen.
Also surviving are brothers Loren William Crabtree and Richard Lee Crabtree.
Kay is preceded in death by her mother Harriet Z. Crabtree, father Benjamin F. Crabtree, husband Jack Munsch (Aug. 27, 2006), fiancé David Hanson (Oct. 31, 2024), brother John Meredith Crabtree, sister Mary Elaine Crabtree Marttila, stepson Scott Harold Munsch, infant brother Kenneth, and infant sister Alice Jo.
A Memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2025 at 11:30 a.m. at Riverview Place Chapel, Fargo, ND. Kay's service will be live streamed below.
Private family burial with close friends and family and presided by Reverend Mark Strobel will take place in Oakes View Cemetery/Veteran Section where she will be buried next to her husband. A gathering of family, acquaintances and former students will be held on Thursday, June 19th, from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. at Dahlstrom Funeral Home in Oakes.
Any memorials given will be distributed to Riverview Place and Hearts in Action Hospice in memory of Kay.
