Kay Profant Obituary

Published by Legacy on May 1, 2022.
Kay Lynn Profant, 67, of Massillon, passed away on April 29, 2022. She was born on June 7, 1954, in Canton to the late Russell and Carolyn (Tressel) Oyer.
Kay was a proud 1972 graduate of Canton South High School where she was a devoted band member. Not only could Kay play the clarinet, but she excelled as a baton twirler and even became the Head Majorette.
Her love for baton never diminished and because she was so good at it, she decided to teach others how to twirl baton and did so with a group she formed call the Canton South Twirlettes.
The Twirlettes were part of the Jr. Hall of Fame Parade every year and Kay taught countless girls for over 15 years, including her own daughter, how to be the best baton twirler they could be.
Kay's outgoing and entertaining personality was something she carried throughout her life. In her later years, she belonged to the 'Shoop Shoop Girls' which was a group she did with her best girlfriends that included dancing and singing routines.
She also enjoyed marching in the Canton South Alumni Band and performing at many fairs and parades over the years.
Of course, Kay was a dedicated fan of her Ohio sports teams, especially The Ohio State Buckeyes and her beloved 'Best Damn Band in Land'. She also enjoyed attending the Massillon Tiger games with her husband Jack and loved watching their band as well.
In addition to teaching baton, Kay was also a licensed beautician which she did for over 25 years and a loyal employee at Huntington Bank for 10+ years.
One of her favorite things to do in her spare time was to make frequent trips to Florida with Jack where they would visit their children and grandchildren.
Kay was fortunate enough to attend her grandson's wedding last May in Daytona Beach with her family and it is a memory they will hold close to their hearts.
She will be deeply missed by her loving husband Jack Profant, whom she married on March 25, 2008, and they shared 20 wonderful years together; her daughter Ruschel (fiancé Jon Green) Miranda and her son Craig Gonzales; grandchildren Lacy (Kyle) Turner, Tre' Miranda and Jalen (Kourtney) Miranda; one great-grandson Oliver Turner and a great-granddaughter coming any day now. Kay is also survived by her brothers Dale (Sue) Oyer and Kenneth (Kelley) Oyer; as well as many nieces, nephews and other extended family.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 6th at 11 a.m. at Mount Zion Church, 2637 Baum St SE, Canton, OH 44707, where Kay was a lifelong member and a member of the Bells of Zion.
Friends may gather beginning at 10 a.m. at the church until the time of the service.
Inurnment will take place following the service at Sunset Hills Burial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made Kay's memory, to the National Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd Street, New York, NY 10016 or the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 7023, Merrifield, VA 22116-7023.

Kay was one of my teachers when we were the canton south y-ettes in the 80s. She was so nice and sweet to everyone. Still think of those times often. Prayers to her family.
