Kay Walters Shelton (80) of Morattico, Va passed away Saturday, March 8, 2025 after a courageous battle with health. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Albert and Emily Pittman Walters. She leaves behind her beloved husband of 61 years, George W Shelton, daughter Stephanie Shelton Harvey and grandchildren, Kaylin Elizabeth Harvey and Carson Wayne Harvey of Mechanicsville, Va.
Kay was blessed to be raised and live her entire life in the village of Morattico on the shores of the Rappahannock. She was a life member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church where she served as church treasurer for 26 years and was a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Women. She was a charter member of the Morattico Waterfront Museum where she served on the Museum Board of Directors and was an active participant in many fundraisers.
At the young age of 21 she began working at Lancaster County Courthouse where she remained her whole career as Deputy Commissioner of Revenue. After 42 years of work, she retired in 2007. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, driving to car shows with her husband in their antique cars and spending time with her family and friends. Kay lived a simple but full life in her little village on the river, and she will be missed by many.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 13, 2025 from 6:00 - 8:00pm at Currie Funeral Home, Kilmarnock, Va. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 14, 2025 at 11:00am at Currie Funeral Home, Kilmarnock, Va. Interment will follow at Lebanon Baptist Church cemetery in Alfonso, Va.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 36 Church Lane, Lancaster, Va. 22503 or Morattico Waterfront Museum, P.O. Box 80 Morattico, Va. 22523.
