Kaye Barnes passed away peacefully on Monday morning May 22, 2023 with family at her side. We are thrilled that she is reunited with her husband Bruce L. Barnes, two sons, Neal Dee and John Daren as well as her mom, dad, brothers and so many other family members and friends. Kaye was born on July 2, 1937 in Boise, Idaho to her parents George Stanford Gwilliam and Vernice Sarah Burt. She had two older brothers, Glen and Bill. Kaye was married to Kenneth Neal Thomason from 1954 until they divorced in 1971. They had three sons; Neal Dee, Don Edward and John Daren. In 1972 Kaye married Bruce Leroy Barnes. They were a dynamic duo until his sudden death in March of 1989 and now, after 34 years, are reunited.
She loved being a mom, grandma and great grandmother. She was a strong and independent mother and wife, making her home a heaven on earth for all who entered it. Her warm smile and happy demeanor were infectious and rubbed off on her children grandchildren and all her knew her. Kaye was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served tirelessly in her many callings in the church. She always went above and beyond, in all that she did. She was known for planning the best girl camps. She was quick to feed those who needed a meal and loved serving her friends, family and those in need. She was known for her delivering homemade bread and freezer jam as a token of her love for others. She was a good friend and confidant. She was easy to talk to, and always kept things private, which was something she worked hard to instill in her children. Her testimony of our Savior and His example of service is something she worked hard to emulate. It is something remembered by her children and those who knew her. Her favorite scripture was "Therefore, I would that ye should be steadfast and immovable, always abounding in good works, that Christ, the Lord God Omnipotent, may seal you his, that you may be brought to heaven, that ye may have everlasting salvation and eternal life, through the wisdom, and power, and justice, and mercy of him who created all things, in heaven and in earth, who is God above all" Mosiah 5:15
She is survived by her children; Dwayne (Nancy) Barnes, Debbie (Jack) Handly, Don (Lynnie) Thomason, Deanna Barnes, and Dwight (Anna) Barnes and 19 grandchildren, and fifty-six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Bruce, her two brothers and sons Neal and John.
