Kaye Powell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wing Mortuary - Lehi on Feb. 27, 2026.
Kaye Peterson Powell

January 21, 1940 – February 24, 2026

In the stillness of the early morning hours of February 24, 2026, Kaye Peterson Powell, beloved daughter of Alma and Verna Peterson, passed from this life into the loving arms of her sweetheart, Bill, who anxiously awaited her return. It was hard to let her go, but we are comforted in knowing that Dad and many others were there to love her and welcome her home.

We were Mom's world, and she sacrificed her needs for our wants. She was a nurse, chauffeur, chef, teacher, cheerleader, referee, and more, serving her family in many unseen ways. With five of us to raise, she kissed endless boo-boos and dried countless tears. She sang us to sleep.

She was a master at growing things and had a green thumb like her dad. She never met a flower she didn't love. She cherished pink roses, purple and white pansies, sweet williams, and anything else that brightened her beautiful garden. She cultivated a living canvas of blooming color that caught the eye of those who passed by. The soil was sweet solace to her soul, and working the deep brown earth revived her spirit, speaking peace to her heart as nothing else could.

Mom could also make something beautiful from the ordinary, whipping up prom dresses from rough sketches and creating masterpieces with scraps of fabric and sheer imagination. Sewing late into the wee hours of the morning, she made Christmas magical for us-presents she crafted with her own hands spilling off the fireplace mantel and onto the floor. Her creativity and love were stitched into every award-winning Halloween costume.

She bravely battled health problems and survived, many times, what might have taken her life. With tenacity and sheer will, she faced setbacks and rose again, her life marked by a spirit that refused to yield.

Mom never gave herself enough credit or fully realized her impact, but she had so much to be proud of. She worked beside Dad at the service station, even when it wasn't convenient. She set her own needs aside to provide for us. She exemplified the value of hard work and keeping one's word. She served others while carrying the weight of her own burdens. Most of all, she leaves behind a legacy in the many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought her so much joy.

She is survived by her children: Lori Christensen; Wendy (Mike) Ellison; Greg (Sheila) Powell; Brent (Jill) Powell; and Melynda (Valiant) Cummings; sixteen cherished grandchildren; and twenty-six great-grandchildren, with one on the way. She is also survived by her younger sister, Vea Lynn (Ken) Jarvis.

Rest well, Mom. You have earned it. We will miss your beautiful smile, easy laughter, and gathering in the warm, welcoming home you created. We are so grateful for the many wonderful memories.

We love you more!
