Keith L. Carmichael

Keith was born on June 26, 1941 in a coal bin in Kearney, Nebraska. The son of Leroy and Ethel, he was the youngest of four kids. After growing up in Nebraska, during high school his dad's trucking company moved them to Colorado. At Lafayette High School he met, fell in love with his soon to be wife Janet Morgan on June 25, 1961. After graduating from CU in 1966 he and Janet moved to Medford, Oregon where he taught English at Medford High School and would graduate with a Master's degree from Southern Oregon College. Deciding that they both missed Colorado, they decided to move back home and came to Longmont where he found a teaching job at Longmont High School. While also finishing his Doctoral degree at CU, he continued teaching at LHS. He subsequently became an Assistant Principal at Erie High School in 1970, Principal at Longs Peak Jr. High in 1971, Principal at Erie High School in 1980, and finally Principal at Mead Jr. High and later Middle School, where he finished his career and retired June 2005.
During this time he and Janet were deeply involved with their church, where they helped teach Bible studies and Sunday school. They were also heavily involved with family, spending birthdays, holidays and other occasions together. After his brother Wayne's death in 1959 and sister in law Pat's death in 1975 he and Janet became surrogate parents to their kids Warren and Mitchel. In 1982 they Keith and Jan were blessed with the birth of their son Brad.
His favorite pastimes, besides being an educator and family man, were spending time watching CU and Broncos football, enjoying their championships in the 90's, traveling, and doing genealogy uncovering an extensive family tree.
He leaves behind his wife, Janet, son, Brad, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Ethel, his brother Wayne, sister's, Betty Sutton and Dorothy Sutton.
A visitation for Keith will be held Monday, December 11, 2023 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Howe Mortuary & Crematory, 439 Coffman St, Longmont, Colorado 80501. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Howe Mortuary. A reception will follow the service in the event center. A graveside committal will occur Tuesday, December 12, 2023 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Green Mountain Cemetery, 290 20th Street, Boulder, Colorado 80302.
