Keith Aaron Gattis' Journey
Keith Aaron Gattis was the son of the late Titus R. Gattis and Frances Tull Gattis. He was born in Salisbury, Maryland on August 23, 1963, and departed this earthly home on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at the University Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland.
Keith was educated in the Wicomico County Public School System and studied mechanics in the vocational program. He graduated from James M. Bennett High School in 1981. While in high school, he played football, which was a great way for him to burn off some of that energy he always seemed to possess.
Growing up in a tight knit community, Keith had many friendships, especially a group of route 349 neighborhood kids. He enjoyed building go-karts, salvaging old bikes, and found different ways to do ordinary things in a better way. Keith remained friends with several of the 349 boys and they shared many community experiences such as Sunday School, ballgames and singing with the Junior Jubilees.
Upon his graduation, Keith enlisted in the United States Army and did a tour of duty in Germany where he put his mechanical skills to use. He served our country honorably from July 1981 to July 1985. Later, he was employed in the automotive departments at both Sears and Montgomery Ward. Keith also obtained a Commercial Driver's License and was employed doing long distance truck driving.
Keith enjoyed sports, both participating in and watching them. He loved to laugh and play practical jokes. He was fun-loving and always jovial. He was known to be someone who was willing to pitch in to help anyone.
Keith leaves to cherish precious memories: two sons, Keith D. Gattis and Brandon Gattis; eight grandchildren, Kayden, Kylar, Ma'kai, Ari'ane, Karmelo, Kiyan, Nevaeh and Aniyah; a sister, Gwynell Harris (Chester); a brother, Daniel James; two aunts, Josephine Waters and Addie Gattis; two nieces, Genienne Walter (Frederick) and Genae Elsey and a host of cousins, other family members, and friends.
In addition to his parents, Titus and Frances Gattis, Keith was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Cherish Gattis, a sister, Josephine Brown, a brother, Gregory Camper, paternal grandparents, Ware and Emma Gattis and maternal grandparents, Denwood and Emma Tull.
