H. Keith McVicker of Broomfield, CO and Naples, FL, died on June 4, 2025 at home surrounded by his family. Keith was born on June 22, 1943 to Harley Keith McVicker, Sr and Margaret Rogers McVicker in Washington, DC.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Susan Lane McVicker, daughter Laney McVicker and her spouse Jodi Lucero, sister Ann McVicker Michnowicz Rogers, brother John McVicker, three nephews, and two nieces. Keith was pre-deceased by his son Mark David McVicker, and his sisters Mary and Ellen.
Keith received his BS in Industrial Management from the University of Illinois in 1966 and his MS in Finance (while a teaching assistant) from the University of Illinois in 1971. As an undergraduate, Keith was president of his college fraternity. During the late 1960s and early 1970s, Keith was a 2nd Lieutenant in the Illinois National Guard following tank training at Fort Knox, KY. His last assignment was as aide to the Commanding General of the Illinois National Guard.
Keith became a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), as well as a Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU). Over the course of his career, Keith was Regional Vice President of Prudential, Vice President of Great-West Life, and Senior Vice President of Home Insurance. In the late 1970s, Keith attended Seton Hall Law School in South Orange, NJ at night, followed by Loyola Law School in Chicago, IL. His move to Denver, CO in 1980 interrupted this law study.
Keith founded Personal Lines Insurance Brokerage, Inc. (PLI) in 1984 following his career in corporate business. Ten years later, in 1994, PLI became a subsidiary of The Chubb Corporation (NYSE:CB).
In 1999, Keith started Lane McVicker, LLC. Keith was President and CEO of Lane McVicker, LLC from January 1999 to October 2012. Lane McVicker was acquired in 2012 by National Financial Partners Corp. (NYSE:NFP).
Throughout his career, Keith was known for recognizing and mentoring young talent in the insurance industry. Keith also financially assisted undergraduate students at the Gies College of Business at the University of Illinois. After the death of their son Mark, Keith and his wife Susan started an ongoing scholarship fund for fourth year medical students at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School.
After Keith's retirement in 2012, his wife Susan retired from her career as a palliative care counselor at Newark NJ's University Hospital and they moved from Short Hills, NJ to the Gold Coast neighborhood of Chicago. They spent their winters in the Wyndemere community of Naples, FL where Keith enjoyed golfing. Keith also was a member of Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, NJ. In 2024, Keith and his wife Susan moved to Broomfield, CO to live closer to their daughters Laney and Jodi.
