Kelly John Sweet passed away on October 11, 2025, in Nampa, Idaho, from a fatal heart attack.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 17, 2025, at 11:00 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 3904 East Greenhurst Road, Nampa, Idaho 83686. The graveside service will take place at Kuna Cemetery, located at 1321 W Boise Street, Kuna, Idaho 83634.
Kelly was born to Mark Duane and Margaret Esther Sweet on March 23, 1958, in Caldwell, Idaho. The 4th son with a little sister that followed.
He grew up in Portland, Oregon; Omaha, Nebraska; Green River, Wyoming; and La Grande, Oregon.
He loved summers as a youth in Melba, Idaho, on the farm with Uncle Robert and Aunt Kay. Also, with cousins Carol, Robbie, Mike, Stan, Joy, Lonnie, and Curt. Kelly's favorite activity was kicking hay off the harvester 40 feet high, hanging onto the safety rail with one hand. Those watching held their breath.
Family vacations were going to Big Creek with extended family for camping and fishing.
In La Grande, Oregon, as a teenager, with Jim and Brian, he enjoyed "Dragging the Gut" in his Red and White Galaxy 500 just like in American Graffiti. His shy, nerdy friends Jim and Brian walked out of the movie theater and saw Kelly walking by with 5 girls hanging on him, all going to a party. Wanna come? They could not even get a date.
Kelly decided to join the United States Air Force his senior year of high school, and he went to boot camp. After boot camp, he married Patty in Cove, Oregon, and left for the Air Force in Arizona. Their daughter, Amber Sweet, was born August 9th. In the Air Force, Kelly was a bomb technician and loaded bombs on planes.
Kelly loved to tinker with anything electrical. He worked many years at Hewlett Packard as a troubleshooter. He earned a bachelor's degree at Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon, in wastewater management, making the Dean's list. He worked dispatch in Oregon, Idaho, and Washington for electric charging stations. He attended training sessions in Alaska, Denmark, and Switzerland.
Kelly loved the Oregon Coast and made it his home for many years. He loved fishing, whether it was in a stream, river, or ocean. Deer or elk hunting with bow or rifle. Dave, Kelly, and Duane went tuna fishing out of Depot Bay, on the Oregon Coast, and caught 38 tuna. They were fishing 60 miles offshore and were so heavy they could not get the boat up on plane to return to shore with their catch. Kelly would eat what he caught. His dream was to live on a catamaran on the Pacific Ocean, and that goal will stay a dream.
Kelly was always willing to help or share. He had a loud laugh, charisma, and the gift of gab. When eating out, he would often pay for others' meals, especially if they were veterans or young families.
Kelly was preceded in death by parents, Uncle Robert, and brother James Anthon.
He is survived by his greatest pride and joy, Amber and Thomas Miles, and their 3 sons, Cyrus, Kobey, and Atticus. His brothers are Duane (Tracy) and Mark (Mary), and his sister is Deanna (Gale Pooley). His Aunt Kaye Svedin and many nieces, nephews, and cousins, and the ones that called him the GREAT Uncle Kelly.
