Kenneth James Berner, a man whose life was characterized by kindness, thoughtfulness, and an enduring love for family and friends, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2023, in
McHenry, IL. Born on February 10, 1950, in
Chicago, IL to Thomas and Doris (Bessa) Berner. He was a long-time member of the Wonder Lake Community. Ken was a beacon of warmth and generosity for all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In his personal life, Ken was a dedicated family man. He was a loving husband to his wife, Vickie, with whom he shared a beautiful 50-year journey that culminated in a joyous golden wedding anniversary celebration on July 21, 2023. Ken's devotion extended to his sons, Jason (Carrie) and Jeremiah (Julie), and his sister, Nancy Ryan. He derived immense joy from his role as a grandfather to Emma, Jordyn, Braeden, and Jaelyn, and he cherished every moment spent with them. He also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, and nephews who held a special place in his heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Doris Berner and his Half brothers, Thomas and Lawrence.
Ken was not just a family man; he was also an industrious worker. He worked at Regency Die and Mold for 32 years. Not only did he work with his father he also worked with both of his sons during the 32 years. Years later he retired from Coilcraft Inc. He found fulfillment in the simplest of tasks, such as yard work, and was renowned for his work ethic. His dedication and commitment were evident in his involvement in his grandchildren's extracurricular activities. He loved watching, his boys, his grandkids and their friends at ski shows, volleyball games, football, baseball games and taking a cruise on one of his many vehicles over the years, the motorcycle, the boat, the golf cart, or the slow roll through the neighborhood in his truck. He will be missed by many, mostly by his loving wife of over 50 years, Vickie. Ken's passion for hard work was matched only by his love for his family and friends, which was the cornerstone of his life.
Despite the demands of a busy life, Ken always made time for others. He was known for his friendly demeanor and his ability to make anyone feel comfortable in his presence. His thoughtfulness was evident in the way he always considered the needs and feelings of others before his own. His kindness was a shining light that guided his actions and endeared him to all who knew him.
