Kenneth William Bitler, 71, of Sayre, PA passed away March 4, 2025 at Sayre Health Care Center due to complications from Parkinson's disease.
He was born October 5, 1953 in Meshoppen, PA the son of the late Albert and Alice (Root) Bitler.
Kenneth was raised in the town of Mehoopany on what would later be called Bitler Road. He attended Tunkhannock High School before traveling to West Virginia Wesleyan College to study history where he met his wife, Sandy. While attending Lancaster Theological Seminary, he served as part time as a United Methodist minister. Ken was a Methodist pastor for over thirty years in West Virginia, New York, and Pennsylvania, spending five years on the Camptown-Herricksville-Standing Stone charge and six years on the Meshoppen-Russell Hill charge. In his later years he served as missionary on Curacao in the Caribbean and volunteered as a museum guide at the Wyalusing Valley Museum. In his younger years Ken enjoyed hunting, fishing, and other outdoor activities. In his later years he enjoyed playing chess with his grandson, painting, and doing puzzles. He often played the part of Santa at Christmas. Throughout his life he spent much free time reading about history, science, and religion.
Ken is predeceased by his wife Sandra (Mithchem) Bitler, and his brother Edward Bitler. He is survived by his children Aaron (Carly Statz) Bitler, Sarah (John) Reilly, grandchildren Erich Bitler, Lenore Bitler-Statz, Rosaleen Reilly, Kayleen Reilly, and niece Barbara (Bitler) Lantz.
