Mr. Boyd passed away on June 12, 2025, at home in Athens.
William Kenneth Boyd was born on August 17, 1937, in Athens, Texas. He was the son of William Henry Boyd and Nona Virginia Meador Boyd.
Kenneth was first and foremost a child of Christ who loved being an active member within the Shady Oaks Baptist Church. He knew that showing the kindness and love of Christ to everyone he met was of the utmost importance. He would gladly share his testimony with others in hopes that they too would experience the same freedom, joy, love, and peace in salvation that he had. Kenneth retired from Campbell Chair Factory in Athens after 56 years of service. He loved working with his hands and manufactured chairs and porch swings with expert level craftsmanship. After retiring, Kenneth and his brother Butch Boyd opened B&B Woodworks. They continued to provide high quality products for every customer and met them with a smile. Kenneth and Butch worked side by side each day for years until his health declined.
Kenneth was a United States Army Veteran and grateful for the life and freedom that the United States of America provides for us all. He loved working on his farm, raising cattle, and tending to his garden. Kenneth was a dedicated member of the Gideons for years and spread God's word as he passed out Bibles in schools, motels, businesses, and to anyone he met. He gladly volunteered at Faith in Action Food Pantry to help everyone in need. Kenneth previously served on the board of the Southside Volunteer Fire Department as well and worked hard to assist in getting support for funding and growth to better keep the community safe. Kenneth served on the board of the Rome Cemetery Association and on the board of the Willow Springs Cemetery Association for many years. He loved attending family reunions each year as he spent time with those he loved.
Kenneth began each day by reading his devotional and spending time with God. After a hard day's work, he loved to spend time with family and tune in to an episode of Gunsmoke, which was his favorite television show. He loved watching the Dallas Cowboys and didn't mind letting anyone present know how he felt about how they were playing that day. This especially includes the team and referees on television. For leisure time, he enjoyed viewing the beauty of nature with family as they drove down county roads and when they took long walks through the woods on his farm. He also enjoyed long conversations with loved ones as they reflected on the past, talked about the present, and spoke of the future.
Kenneth is preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Teressa Splawn, his sister Willie Jean Rogers, and his brother Wayne Boyd.
Kenneth is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Mary Lynn Boyd; his children, Glenn Boyd, James and Michelle Boyd, Stacy and Paula Boyd, and Paul and Rachel Boyd; his sisters, Wilma Dean Smith, Nona Faye Kimery, and his brothers, Hodge Boyd and Butch and Lila Boyd; 10 Grandchildren and numerous Great Grandchildren.
Special thanks extended to Yvonne Loden and Angela Sessions as his added loving caregivers until the end.
