Kenneth Lee Brooks, 85, of Harrisburg, passed away Monday, March 24, 2025 at his residence in Harrisburg NC. Mr. Brooks was born December 9, 1939 in Richmond County, North Carolina to the late Samuel Lee Brooks and the late Barbara Chloe Williams Brooks. He was also preceded in death by sister, Dorothy Anne Hatley.
Mr. Brooks grew up in Oakboro, NC. After finishing school and spending time on the farm, he served in the U. S. Army for 3 years and was stationed with the lst Infantry Division in Ft. Riley, Kansas. He was also stationed in Turkey and Germany during his military service. He retired from the City of Charlotte, Street Maintenance Dept, after 32 ½ years. He loved to cook and often did breakfast for his church family and helped with bar-be-cues. He was an avid bird enthusiast and lifelong gardener. He was a member of Black-Phillips American Legion Post 433.
He was a devoted husband of 56 years, father of 3, and grandfather of 8 who loved to cook and care for others. He loved to spend time at the beach fishing and being with family and friends. He stood firm in his faith and was active in many church activities. He will be missed by all who knew him.
The family is planning a memorial service to be held on Saturday, March 29th at 2 PM at Grace Crossing Fellowship, 5600 Rocky River Rd., Charlotte, NC.
Survivors include wife, Barbara Yeager Brooks of Harrisburg, NC, son, Robert Brooks of Harrisburg, NC, son, Kenneth Brooks, Jr. of Charlotte, NC, daughter, Amanda Brooks Zaharis of Chelsea, AL. Also surviving are his grandchildren; Jaxon Brooks, Chloe Graves, Gracey Brooks, Lu Espinal, Adah Graves, Lily Graves, Reagan Brooks and Kenley Brooks and his faithful dog, Oreo.
