Kenneth A. "K.C." Campbell Jr.

The Honorable Kenneth Arthur "K.C." Campbell, Jr., age 66, of Walterboro, entered into rest eternal Thursday afternoon, June 6, 2024.
Born July 17, 1957, in Salem, Massachusetts, he was the youngest son of the late Mr. Kenneth Arthur Campbell, Sr. and the late Mrs. Dorothy Ann MacMaster Campbell. K.C. entered this world and left his mark. He had a larger-than-life personality and will be eternally remembered for his love of entertaining friends, family, and even strangers. K.C. was a friend to all who needed him, and he loved so, so many people. He had a soft heart for charity and those in need, and he gave to all when he could.
He is survived by his oldest daughter, Dorothy Eileen Campbell Burke (Packy) and children, Campbell Theodore "Camp" Burke, Fitzpatrick Anderson "Fitz" Burke, and Beaumont William "Beau" Burke; his only son, Kenneth Arthur "K.C." Campbell, III (Bray) and children, Bryar Kenneth Campbell and Kallen Arthur Campbell; and his baby daughter, Eleanor Grace "Ellie" Murray (Patrick), and his only granddaughter, Violet Ann Murray. His children were a point of pride for him, and he could be found bragging about their successes, whether true or not, to anyone who would listen. They were his greatest accomplishment. K.C. is also survived by his fiance, Letha Polk.
He is also survived by his siblings: Lorraine (Brian) Moore, Kevin (Martha) Campbell, Colin Campbell, Donald (Kathy) Campbell, and Amy Campbell Kelly. He has many nieces and nephews: Jonathan Moore, Timothy Moore, Kevin Campbell, Suzanne Campbell Chisholm, Kelly Campbell, Katie Campbell, Christopher Campbell, Miles Campbell, Emily Kelly, and Noah Kelly, as well as great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first nephew, Ryan Campbell. The Campbells were a wild, smart bunch of children who are fiercely competitive no matter the game. They kept their parents on their toes with their many adventures. K.C. loved to reminisce about when they grew up in the Hobcaw community of Mt. Pleasant and the many stunts they pulled. He loved his mom and dad so very much and missed them every day after they passed. He loved his sibling days and enjoyed their lunch gatherings.
In addition to his family, K.C. is survived by Pamala (James) White, known as "Mama Pam" to his children, who worked alongside him for forty years and Carrie (Lanier) Ulmer, who has been his best friend and coworker and has cared for him so immensely over the years. Carrie showed K.C. a friendship and love that few experience. K.C. leaves behind his very best friends Don and Marianne Holmes and Grey Holmes and their family, and Randy White and his family. He loved his times and memories with Lee P., Rilee Ann, Clifton, his old pal, Howard, his golf trip buddies here and those gone, his lawyer friends, his many friends from the Colleton Bar Association, Magistrate Court staff, "The Walterboro Crew," "Filling Station Crew," and so, so many more. He was preceded in death by two close friends, Randy Peters and John Waddell.
K.C. was a lover of many games including golf, his "Backyard Olympics", and his prized Golden Tee. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, and his greatest joys in life were his children and grandchildren. He wanted everyone to feel loved and be happy, and he was happiest entertaining friends at Memorial Day parties, New Year's Day parties, and for the 4th of July. K.C. loved cooking for anyone who wanted to eat. His specialties were Cincinnati chili, lemon chicken, BBQ, and especially his homemade sauces. Snake hunting with his son, fishing with his grandchildren, shopping with his daughters on Christmas Eve, being on his boat on the Ashepoo, taking trips to Edisto and Disney World with his grandchildren, fondue parties, and his special prizes, are only a few of the memories his friends and family will remember about him.
K.C. graduated from THE Ohio State University, undergrad, 1979, and Law School, 1982, and held the honor of ringing the victory bell after football games as a member of Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity. He was a dedicated Buckeye even after moving south again. He loved recalling his time working undercover security at Kings Island Amusement Park, where he met his wife and mother of his children, Shelly Pflum Campbell. He moved back to SC, passed the Ohio and South Carolina Bar, and began his long career practicing law in Walterboro in 1983. He loved serving his community and friends, and he never wanted to stop. He served as a Colleton County Magistrate since 1989 and loved every single minute of it. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, and served on the Board at Colleton Preparatory Academy for over fifteen years.
His final days were spent surrounded with much love and many visits from so many loving family and friends. His family wants to thank everyone who visited him in recent days. K.C. felt so loved and got to be the center of everyone's attention. He couldn't have asked for more. His care team at Magnolia's and Amy at Edisto Hospice were such a blessing to K.C. and his family, and he received the special treatment he would have wanted.
K.C.'s last request is that everyone remember and celebrate the good times with absolutely no crying. It is in that spirit that a memorial celebration worthy of K.C.'s high standards will be held from 5 until 8 o'clock, Wednesday evening, June 12, 2024, at the Dogwood Hills Country Club, 1 Dogwood Lane, Walterboro. For all who know and will remember, he was never the one who wanted to leave the party first. This world will never have the same light without him.
Preceding the memorial celebration, a 9-Hole Captains Choice Charity Golf Tournament in K.C.'s memory will be held at Dogwood Hills. At the request of the family, to honor their father, and carry on his legacy of helping others, all contributions raised will be donated to Shawn Jacques, a local teenager battling brain cancer.
