Kenneth Roy (Kenny) Curtis passed peacefully on January 5, 2026, in Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown, after a sudden illness. He was 86 years old. Kenny was born on November 29, 1939 in Harding, West Virginia.
Kenny is survived and missed by his loving wife Carrie Sue (Sturm) Curtis of 66 years; and his children, Kimberly Parsons (Dean), Kenneth "Blair" Curtis, Kristi Cross, Brian "Paul" Curtis (Brenda), and Anthony Curtis. Forever cherished and remembered by his 15 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Grandchildren include: Joshua Parsons (Tiffany), Alicia Parsons; Travis Curtis, Tyler Curtis (Mycala), Ben Canny (Bethany), Elizabeth Langman (Ben), David Canny (Kaleigh), Thomas Canny, Rachel Cross, Savanna Curtis and Adrianna Longwell (Dusty), George, Alena, Dorian and Brayden Curtis and one step grandchild Chandler Bynum. Great grandchildren include: Ashton and Bailey Curtis, Hazel and Heidi Curtis, Abigail, Evelyn and Owen Canny, Kate, Hank, Trace, Todd and Cody Langman, River, Penny, Matilda, Ivy and Luna Canny and Liam Cross. He is also survived by one brother James Curtis (Judy) and one sister, Dora Foy along with several nieces and nephews.
Kenny was preceded in death by his father, Blair L. Curtis and his mother Ava (Cutright) Curtis, his sister Natalie Harris, and his brothers Earl and William Curtis.
Kenny attended schools in WV from 1945-1953 and in Ohio from 1954-1957. He joined the Navy in January 1958 and completed basic training at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center, he was assigned to the Navy Air Base Chase Field in Beeville, TX where he served with the VT Sqd 24. In 1960 he was transferred to the Moffett Field Naval Air Base in Mt. View, CA, assigned to the Carrier Air Group 15, Fighter Sqd 154 which was assigned to the USS Aircraft Carrier Coral Sea. In 1960-61 a far east cruise took him to several ports in Japan and Hong Kong. In October 1962 units were called to service for the Vietnam Conflict and he sailed again to the Far East. He was involuntarily extended from Jan 62 to July 62, during this time his fighter Sqd served at Naval Air Bases in Japan and Cubi Point, in the Philippine Islands. He was discharged in 1962 and returned to WV where he started driving semi rigs in WV, OH and PA. In 1971 he started as a school bus driver for the Barbour County School System and retired after 26 yrs of service. From 1977-2008 he owned and operated Ken's Lock and Key Locksmith business and he retired from it in 2007. He was a hardworking man and during those careers he joined the WV Army National Guard and spent 18 yrs with A Battery 1st of the 201st Artillery. In 1990 his unit was called to service for Operation Desert Storm in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Iraq. He was awarded several ribbons and medals throughout his military career including the Bronze Star. Kenny was a faithful servant of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was a charter member of Faith Way Baptist Church where he served in several positions in the Sunday School and in the music ministry. He dearly loved singing in the choir, solos, and gospel quartets, including The Sojourners.
Friends will be received from the Talbott Funeral Home 56 N. Brandenburg Street in Belington on Sunday January 11, 2026 from 3PM-8PM and again on Monday January 12, 2026 from 8 AM – 11AM the funeral hour with Mr. Curtis's grandson Pastor David Canny officiating assisted by Mr. Curtis's Brother James Curtis. Interment will then follow in the Faith Way Baptist Cemetery at Camp Popeye near Belington, where full military rites will be conducted by the United States Army and the American Legion Post # 96 of Belington. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Faith Way Baptist Church Missons Fund P. O. Box 26 Philippi, WV 26416.
