Kenneth Dennis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mercer-Adams Funeral Service on Feb. 10, 2026.
Kenneth David Dennis, 77, passed away February 4, 2026 in Oklahoma City, OK. He was born January 22, 1949. He married Amy Lee Ackerman on February 8, 1975 in Edmond, OK.

Kenneth David retired from Mid-Del Schools after teaching at Highland Park Elementary for 37 years. He also taught at Bridge Creek and Friend School in Chickasha, OK. In addition, he served as an Oklahoma County Deputy Sheriff.

He was a proud veteran of the US Air Force. He received the prestigious "Airman of the Year" award. He served as the Base Commander's aide in Mildenhall, England and was the director of Base youth activities.

Kenneth David loved sports of every kind. While serving in the Air Force, he broke a track record and ran competitively in England, Germany and Greece. He received a scholarship at Oklahoma Christian to run cross country.

Youth sports were his passion: coaching soccer, basketball and Little League baseball at PCO (Putnam City Optimist). His all-time favorite team that he coached was the all-girls t-ball team "Little Angels" for his granddaughter, Mila. He was also a supporter of the Boy Scouts.

Kenneth David loved kids so much that he was a playground monitor at Hilldale Elementary. The children and staff blessed his life so much. He was known to them as "Mr. Grasshopper." He loved everyone and formed lasting relationships. He was loved by his family, friends and students and made everyone feel special.

Kenneth David was preceded in death by his father, Clinton Dennis; son, Jeffrey Stephen Dennis (age 8); brother, Gary Dennis; and sister, Gigi Bates.

He is survived by his wife, Amy Dennis; mother, LaJuana Sue Dennis; sons, Brian Dennis and Brent Dennis; grandchildren, Odin Dennis and Mila Dennis; and nieces, nephews and extended family.

Visitation with family present will be Thursday, 6:30-8:30pm at Mercer-Adams. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 14, 11:00am, at Northwest Church of Christ, 4301 NW 23rd Street in Oklahoma City. Graveside services will follow at 2:00pm in Gracelawn Cemetery, Edmond, OK.
