Saint Martinville, LA – A home-going celebration of life for Mr. Kenneth Drake, 64, will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Union Baptist Church (902 St. Martin Street) with Pastor Darren Benoit, officiating.
He will await the resurrection in Union Baptist Church Cemetery (205 Saint Bernard Street) in Saint Martinville, LA.
Visitation hours will be observed at Union Baptist Church on Saturday, March 29, 2025, beginning at 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service.
Kenneth was a resident of Saint Martinville, LA. He transitioned at 12:16 A.M. on Monday, March 24, 2025, at New Iberia Manor South in
New Iberia, LA.
Kenneth Drake was born to the union of Lizzie Voorhies Drake and Willis Drake, Sr. on August 1, 1960, in Lafayette, Louisiana. At an early age, he professed his faith in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and was baptized at Union Baptist Church by Reverend Harrison McKinley Jones where he remained a member.
In his lifetime, Kenneth was a self-taught mechanic (the best in the area) and a construction worker (for which he received a plaque for many years of good work). If your vehicle had an issue, people would come looking for him because he had a God given gift to diagnose the problem and fix it for an affordable price. Family was very important to him. When his father got sick, he stepped up and helped his mother by sitting with his father in the hospital. He helped around the house by cutting the lawn and by making sure the vehicles were working properly. He was beloved by his nieces and nephews who he would watch in his spare time if his siblings had something to do on that particular day. Kenneth was a loyal New Orleans Saints fan and during football season on game day you could find him cheering them on. He was also a wrestling fan of the WWE. He had a special bond with his daughter whom he loved dearly. He did not let his sickness deter him in any way because when he suffered his first stroke and had one of his legs amputated, the doctor said he would not walk again. He proved them wrong by learning to walk and God got the glory. He was very strong willed and independent. He persevered through it all.
He leaves to cherish his fond memories, one daughter, Kenchasa Williams (Quinn) of
New Iberia, LA; one sister: Delores Drake Menard of St. Martinville, LA; one brother: Kawaski Drake of Saint Martinville, LA; special friend, Angela Narcisse; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who know that earth has no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal.
He joins in glory, his mother: Lizzie Voorhies Drake; his father: Willis Drake, Sr.; three brothers: Willis Drake, Jr., Nelson Drake, Sr., and Allen Drake, four sisters: Mary Ann Drake, Evelyn Rose Drake, Rose Marie Robert and Darlene Drake; maternal grandparents: Allen Voorhies, Sr. and Alberta Roberts Voorhies; paternal grandparents: Lawrence Drake, Sr. and Lillian Gardner; a niece, Angela Marie Drake.
Active pallbearers are Quinn Williams, Joseph Williams, Johnathan Williams, Kawaski Drake, Krystian Robertson, and McKaylon Roberts.
Honorary pallbearers are Eddie Menard, Michael Garrette, Allen Garrette, James Landry, Oliver Garrette, Sr., Mark Berard, Patrick Berard, Sr., Willis Thibodeaux, and Brandon Perrio.
