Oren Joseph Decuir

A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Oren Joseph Decuir will be held at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 7819 Weeks Island Road – Lydia, LA on Friday, August 15, 2025, at 10:00 AM.

Fr. Randy Courville, Celebrant will officiate.
The visitation will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025, at Fletcher Funeral Home beginning at 7:30 AM until 9:15 AM. A rosary will be prayed at 8:30 AM.

He will be laid to rest in St. Nicholas Catholic Church Cemetery, 3319 Patout Rd., in Patoutville, LA.

United States Army Military Honors will be rendered.

Oren Decuir, 84 of Grand Marais, Louisiana, passed away peacefully at his home on August 10, 2025.

Born on March 25, 1941, in St. Martinville, Louisiana. Oren was a graduate of Holy Rosary Catholic School in Lafayette, LA. He served his country with honor in the United States Army and was a Vietnam veteran. During his service, he earned several medals and commendations for his dedication and bravery.

In 1966, Oren married Bessie Olivier Decuir, and together they built a beautiful life over their 59 years of marriage. They raised two children, Troy Decuir and Cristi Decuir Duplantis, and created a home filled with love, laughter and togetherness.

Oren continued his life of service by working for the US Federal Government with the Mine Safety and Health Administration. His work required him to travel weekly, where he enjoyed meeting new people, teaching and sharing his expertise.

Known for his warm heart and joyful spirit, Oren was a true family man. He loved dancing – especially the cha-cha, hosting family cookouts and gathering with friends and loved ones. He was an active member of Club Matinee, where he and fellow members traveled and enjoyed each other's company.

After retiring, he and Bessie traveled throughout the United States, cherishing time with friends, family and his Vietnam Company brothers during their annual reunions.

Oren is survived by his wife, Bessie; his children Troy and Cristi and relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Khrine and Ella Decuir, and his sister Goldie Guillory.
Serving as Active Pallbearers are Renaldo Boutte, Andre Olivier, Joseph A. Olivier, Arnell Olivier, Jordan Grogan, and Brian Alleman.

Serving as Honorary Pallbearers are George Fontenot, Tommy Etienne, Jimmy Robertson, Jarrette Hall, and Dana Gathe.

The Decuir family wish to acknowledge with deep appreciation the many expressions of love, support and kindness shown during our time of bereavement.
