Kenneth Wayne Fields, born March 13, 1948, in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, to Jesse and Anna Jane (Sultzer) Fields, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. He was 76 years, 4 months, and 17 days old.
A lifelong resident of Kansas, Oklahoma, Kenneth graduated from Kansas High School in 1967. On June 30, 1973, he and Debra Ann Bark were united in marriage in Kansas, Oklahoma. The couple was blessed with three daughters: Miranda, Valerie, and Erica. Kenneth dedicated himself to providing for his family through hard work, spending over 24 years at Allen's Canning in Siloam Springs, Arkansas, before retiring from Simmons Pet Food in 2010.
As a proud full-blood Cherokee Nation tribal member and Native First Language Cherokee Speaker, Kenneth embraced his heritage with pride. He had a deep love for music, particularly 70s tunes, and enjoyed collecting coins and cans. His green thumb was evident in his garden, where he cultivated some of the best tomatoes and peppers around. A skilled dominoes player, Kenneth also looked forward to his monthly bingo games with family.
Kenneth cherished trips with Debra to the casino in West Siloam Springs, but their weekly Tuesday lunch dates were especially dear to him. He found joy in going to the creek to catch crawdads. Kenneth loved playing basketball with his grandkids and following their sports activities with great enthusiasm.
Known for his friendly and outgoing nature, Kenneth had a wonderful sense of humor that brought joy to those around him. He was devoted to his dog, Swindle, whom he had to sing to while feeding so he would eat. Above all, Kenneth was a devoted family man who deeply loved his family and was dearly loved in return. He will be missed dearly.
Kenneth is survived by: His wife of over 51 years: Debra of the home; 3 daughters: Miranda Matthews and husband Mark of West Siloam Springs, Oklahoma, Valerie Pilcher and husband Jett of Kansas, Oklahoma, and Erica Fields of West Siloam Springs, Oklahoma; 4 Grandchildren: Destiny Daniel and husband Garrett of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, Desiree Matthews of West Siloam, Oklahoma, Landon Pilcher of Kansas, Oklahoma, and Lorelai Pilcher of Kansas, Oklahoma; 1 great grandchild on the way; 1 sister: Jeannie Yeager of San Antonio, Texas; numerous other relatives and a host of friends.
Kenneth was preceded in death by: his parents; and 2 sisters: Gracie Cochran and Carolyn Stick.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at Long Prairie Cemetery in Kansas, Oklahoma, with Brother Shawn Bates officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to Locust Grove Funeral Home in Locust Grove, Oklahoma.
