Obituary of Kenneth W. Fitzjurls Sr.
Kenneth (Ken) W. Fitzjurls Sr., 78, passed away on Monday October 16, 2023. Ken was born on June 29, 1945, in Paris, Arkansas. He was the child of Harlen and Virginia Fitzjurls, with a total of 12 siblings. Ken was also a proud white Cherokee, embracing his heritage throughout his life.
Ken served in Vietnam as a member of the U.S. Navy. On a quick visit to Boston during the war, he met Corrine F. Fitzjurls on a Greyhound bus. After the war, their paths crossed again and they married on April 15, 1967, spending a wonderful 56 years together. They moved to Maine, started a family of four hardworking boys, and continued the farm that Corrine's family had built.
Kenneth was a respected member of Belfast's community. He served as lieutenant Chaplain for the Belfast Police Department for 31 years. Many would refer to him as a smalltown legend. His service to the community was selfless, and almost every individual in the town would have some sort of wonderful story about him. His devotion to the town was unmatched, and we are thankful for his long-lasting service.
Kenneth is survived by his four sons: Kenneth Fitzjurls Jr. and his wife Melissa, William Fitzjurls and his wife Kimberly, Wayne Fitzjurls and his wife Missy, and Walter Fitzjurls and his fiancee Ali. He also has an abundance of loving grandchildren who will miss their "Papa" every day. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Coradean Baker Saitta-Lavergne, as well as numerous great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Unfortunately, Ken's wife Corrine passed away earlier this year on March 29 after a battle with cancer. They are now reunited as they peacefully resume their lives with the Lord.
We would like to thank the Harbor Hill Center, and all the nurses who helped take care of Ken in his final year. There will be a small private ceremony in the spring to celebrate the life of Kenneth. Memories and condolences may be shard on his tribute wall.
