Kenneth Carl "Kenny" Grauberger, 86, died Monday, December 22, 2025, at the Kearny County Hospital in Lakin, Kansas. He was born February 24, 1939, at the family home in
Deerfield, Kansas, the son of Henry & Opal (McGee) Grauberger.
Kenny grew up in Deerfield where he attended Deerfield schools and graduated from Deerfield High School in 1958. On April 21, 1959, he married his high school sweetheart, Viola "Penny" Adams at Immanuel Lutheran Church in
Deerfield, Kansas. Kenny served in the United States Army from February 1959 to April 1962. He spent his first 2 years in Germany and their son, Mark, was born in Frankfurt, Germany. After the service, Kenny and his family returned to Deerfield. He worked for 30 years for Colorado Interstate Gas (CIG). After his retirement, he worked at Garden City Community College in the Maintenance Department and at Main Street Supply in Lakin, Kansas.
Kenny was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of
Garden City, KS and was a volunteer firefighter for the Deerfield Fire Department for 30 years. He also served on the Deerfield City Council. Kenny enjoyed carpentry work, working and tinkering in his shop. He also enjoyed traveling, camping and spending time with his family - especially his grandchildren.
Survived by his wife of the home; son Mark Grauberger of Papillion, NE; daughter Julie (Roy) Cessna of
Garden City, KS; grandchildren Jeremy (Whitney) Grauberger of Papillion, NE; Lindsey (Mark) Henrich of Papillion, NE; Brandon Timmons of Grandview, MO; Melissa Timmons of Lee's Summit, MO; Colby Cessna of
Garden City, KS and Brady Cessna of
Garden City, KS; brother Tom Grauberger of
Lakin, KS; sisters Margaret Holman of
Garden City, KS and Susan (Larry) Johnston of
Garden City, KS and 5 great-grandchildren Bailey, Shelby, Tristan, Harper, & Emma Mae.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Karla Timmons; and 3 sisters Elaine Westerbuhr, Donna Grauberger and Carol Grauberger.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Garden City with Rev. Vance Becker officiating. Burial will follow at the Deerfield Cemetery in
Deerfield, Kansas, with military graveside rites conducted by the United States Army at Fort Riley Honor Guard and the Southwest Kansas Veterans Honor Guard. Friends may call from 9:00 am. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City.
