Obituary of Kenneth James Hackett
NISKAYUNA –
Mr. Kenneth J. Hackett, 50, of Niskayuna, passed away unexpectedly at Ellis Hospital on Monday, July 7, 2025.
He was born on March 18, 1975 in Niagara Falls, New York to parents Kenneth P. Hackett and Eleanor (Tweedale) Hackett.
Kenneth, or Ken, as he was known by family and friends, was raised in both Jamestown and Saratoga Springs, New York. He attended college at Union College in Schenectady, New York.
At the time of his death, Mr. Hackett was the Director of Recreation at the Albany LaSalle School for Boys. He was formerly employed at the College of Saint Rose as their Assistant Swim Coach, at Siena College as their Head Coach for the Women's Water Polo Team (from 2002-2003). Ken also served as a YMCA Swim Coach, a Swim Instructor for the Empire State Games, and a Water Polo Coach for Scholastic and Open Boys Teams.
Ken found his joy and purpose in the simple things in life: the sound of water, the laughter of friends and family, and the opportunity to help others. Whether it was spending time at a peaceful Adirondack lake or relaxing on the beaches of Southern Maine, the water always held a special place in his heart. Ken's passion for water sports led him to become an accomplished coach in swimming and water polo. He also dedicated much of his time to teaching swimming lessons, using his easy-going nature and humor to connect with children and young adults alike. His ability to relate to others made him a beloved mentor to many. Ken was also deeply committed to working with at-risk teens, helping guide them toward brighter, more promising futures. His patience, encouragement, and understanding made a profound difference in their lives, offering them hope and a path forward when they needed it most. In addition to his love for the water, Ken had a deep appreciation for music. Whether it was the smooth rhythms of jazz, the energy of classic rock, or the sound of his own instruments, music was always a part of his soul. Ken played the trumpet throughout high school and college, but his musical journey didn't stop there. Self-taught on both the piano and drums, he was constantly tapping out a beat in his head. His love for music became a shared experience, passed down to his daughter Abby, with whom he shared a special bond over playing by ear and discovering new tunes together.
Beloved husband of nearly 20 years to Jennifer (Adams ) Hackett, whom he married on August 26, 2005 at St. Augustine's Church, Troy, NY. Devoted father to Abigail "Abby" Hackett. Cherished son of Kenneth P. Hackett and Eleanor Hackett (Victor Motta). Dearest brother and brother in law of Brian (Kathy Neinstedt) Hackett and Christopher (Magen) Hackett. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Ken was known for and will be warmly remembered as being the fun, supportive, and adventurous "Uncle" and he cherished the time spent with them. Ken was the adored son in law to Frederick and Beverly Stefan and was predeceased by his father-in-law, Harold Adams.
Relatives and Friends are invited to attend calling hours and may visit with Ken's Family on Wednesday Morning, July 16, 2025 from 8AM until 10AM in the Sanctuary of St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish (Union Street Church) located at: 1803 Union Street, Niskayuna, NY 12309, where a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 10 o'clock by Father Robert "Bob" Longobucco, Pastor. All are welcome.
The Hackett Family wishes to acknowledge the Niskayuna Emergency Response Team and also the Medical Staff at Ellis Hospital for their care to Ken.

Ken was a kind, calm, and patient human. Quick to smile, his welcoming approach allowed the youngsters of LaSalle to connect with him. He introduced so many to the joys of camping, swimming, and exploring the wilderness. His dedication to the adventure based learning experiential program positively impacted the youth and staff who participated. He taught them countless table games, and exemplified fairness and good sportsmanship.
It's impossible to calculate the total impact Ken had on the many youth he served, but suffice to say, he persistently and quietly made their world a better place.
God bless his family for sharing him with LaSalle School all these years.

Saddened to see this. We knew Ken as he was growing up, and a finer young man couldn´t be found. Our son went to swim camp with Kenny and he set an excellent example for the team at all times.
