Obituary
Newport, NH: Kenneth J. Hall passed away peacefully on April 27, 2023, after a lengthy illness, with his wife Mary by his side.
Ken or 'Doc' Hall was born in Waterbury, CT. on January 11, 1933. He was a born carpenter and attended trade school in Meriden, CT. He always wanted to make and build things. After meeting and marrying Mary he built their home in CT. He then started a club in his home called "The Eleven Together Boys Club", a group of boys who were heading in the wrong direction. He gave them a place to be off the streets and out of trouble.
This became a big endeavor. The boys started helping other people and Ken was a great advisor to them. The boys delivered Christmas gifts to 12 families in town. They bought these gifts through car washes and other fundraising opportunities. Ken even got them jackets with their name & The Club. Ken was made "Man of the Year" by a local club in CT.
After he built house #2 in CT., he decided to move to NH and built house #3 in Unity, NH. He wanted to snowmobile and NH had more trails.
Also in the middle of this move, he and Mary started a business called the "Sign Doctor". He started making wood signs at craft fairs and festivals all over New England. He was always called 'Doc' at the shows. Then they opened a store on their property in Unity called "Santa's Workshop". Mary ran the store and Ken made the signs and wood products. He joined the Claremont Kiwanis Club and eventually was given the "Hixson Fellow" Award by the Club.
His greatest honor was meeting President Obama and introducing him in Unity when he was running for President.
His greatest thrill was in Pennsylvania. He used to dress in white clothes and this show was featuring Bob Hope. The guards thought he was a doctor, let him in the gate at the show and sat in the front row with the Governor of Pennsylvania.
His greatest fun was at MGM and Foxwoods playing slots.
Doc Hall was predeceased by his son Thomas and his daughter Linda.
Doc Hall is survived by his wife Mary, his three sisters Barbara Zygmunt, Dorothy Daniels, and Ruthan Watts, several nieces and nephews, and many very close friends.
Mary is very appreciative of the care he received at Woodlawn in Newport.
In lieu of flowers please send any donations to the Newport Senior Center, 76 South Main St., Newport, NH 03773.
Mass and burial will be at a later date.
