Ken (Kenny) Harold, affectionately known to many as "Ice Cream Ken," passed away peacefully at The Arbors in Stow on August 5th, 2025. Born in Akron, Ohio, Ken was a proud graduate of Garfield High School, class of 1973. Ken is survived by his devoted wife, Gwen Harold, and his German Shepherd, Whisper. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends who will miss his regular phone calls and sense of humor. Ken is now reunited in heaven with his parents, siblings, and his beloved German Shepherds. Ken's faith in God was simple but deep.
Ken began his lifelong career in the dairy industry at Lawson's/Dairy Mart in Cuyahoga Falls, where he served as a Production Control Manager. His passion for the industry and pride in his work, led him to Velvet Ice Cream in Utica, Ohio, where he retired after 20 years of dedicated service as the Plant Manager.
After retirement, Ken returned to Northeast Ohio, to be closer to his family and friends from Akron. He enjoyed regular phone calls with many of them and found great joy in staying connected.
He found great pleasure in the simple joys of life —music, history, reading, and visiting his favorite restaurants. In his younger years, Ken earned his flying certification and was especially proud of his solo flights out of Sky Park Airport, a point of pride he often shared with others. Memorial gifts may be made to the Kenmore Free Store, 2308 24th Street SW, Akron, OH 44314.
He will be deeply missed.
Visitation will be held from 10:00am to 11:00am, Tuesday, August 12th at Newcomer Funeral Home (131 N. Canton Rd., Akron) where services will be held at 11:00am with Pastor Brenda Young officiating.
Interment will be held at Hillside Memorial Park
