Kenneth Harris Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rhodes Funeral Home - Washington Avenue on Jan. 28, 2026.
Kenneth A. Harris Sr. was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on May 15th 1958 to Gertrude Glodd Harris and Nolan Harris Jr. At an early age Kenneth was baptized at True Love Baptist Church. He spent his high school years at Warren Easton as a star football player and a member of the band, going on to graduate in 1977. Post graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army where he served his country until being honorably discharged.

He would go on to enroll at Moler Beauty College and received a certification as a Barber and Cosmetologist. He worked at Lake Forest Plaza in security and later at Regional Transit Authority as a bus driver. One of Kenneth's greatest passions was music, with Jazz being his favorite genre. He moved to Pass Christian, Mississippi to live on his grandmother, Sadie's, property where he enjoyed fishing, cooking and mastering the grill.

Despite life's challenges, he held a strong will and desire to overcome which kept him until he passed peacefully in his home on January 15, 2026.

Kenneth is preceded in death by his father Nolan Harris Jr., his grandfather Nolan Harris Sr., his grandmother Sadie Washington Harris, his nephew Nicholas Gooden and his beloved daughter Kendra M. Harris. He leaves to cherish his memories: his devoted mother Gertrude Glodd Harris, his three children- Kenneth Harris Jr, Kirstie and Erin Harris. Five grandchildren Kennisha, Kennietta, Roshon, Taniyah Harris & Jace Perkins. One great grandson Kayden Harris. He was also a father figure to many.

Two sisters Cynthia (& John) LeCour, Antoinette (& Wayne) Gooden. One brother Nolan Harris (& Alisha) Harris. Five nephews Jude, Nolan IV, Lawrence, Ashton and Chad. Three nieces Shondreka, Chrishelle, and Enjoli. Many great nieces and nephews, a host of cousins he had a deep connection with and many life-long friends. His love and compassion spanned decades and spread to all he knew. He had a nickname for everyone and his personality was contagious.

Ken would always say "IT AIN'T EASY BEING ME"….. but what he didn't know was that it was easy to love him just the way he was. He fought a good fight and while we're left to deal with the devastating loss, we take comfort in knowing he can be at peace and we're left with an abundance of memories to cherish.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend his Funeral Service at D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home, 3933 Washington Avenue on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at 9:00 am.
