Kenneth D. House passed away peacefully in Buckeye, Arizona, on October 4, 2025, at the age of 67. Born on April 20, 1958, to Edward and Mary House, Ken lived a life marked by service, dedication, and generosity. A proud veteran, Ken served his country in the United States Navy before pursuing higher education at the University of Texas at San Antonio, where he earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and began a lifelong love affair with the University of Texas Longhorn football team. His career spanned three decades in the nuclear power industry, with significant contributions to the South Texas Project and Palo Verde Generating Station in Arizona. Ken retired in 2018 as the Engineering Design Director, remembered as a technical expert and a leader dedicated to his team.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Daniel. He is survived by his beloved sister, Beverly, his cousins, Jimmy Mahan and his wife, Marsha, Hank Mahan and his wife, Peggy, Kay Howard, and Ginger Brown, and a wide circle of cherished friends.
Known for his generous spirit and love of life, Ken enjoyed hunting, playing blackjack, sipping iced tea, watching college football, and reading history books. He was a gracious host, often welcoming friends and coworkers to his beautiful backyard for his annual post-outage celebrations. Above all, he treasured the companionship of his beloved dogs, Peanut and Goober.
A service to honor Ken's life will be held at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery on October 20, 2025 at 9:45 AM. A memorial gathering will also take place in the Phoenix area in the weeks to come.
Ken's legacy of kindness, leadership, and camaraderie will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
"All he asked of life was the best of everything." – Erik Larson, Thunderstruck
