In February of 1958, he joined the U.S Army where he completed his high school with a GED. He was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division. In 1959, while on a one-day leave, he was severely injured in an Automobile accident, as a passenger in the back seat and remained hospitalized for 6 months.
He was taken to the hospital at Fort Campbell, KY., he was in a coma for ten days, both femurs were broken and he had internal injuries. After 6 months, he was discharged to Fort Hood in Texas to the 2nd Armored Division and then was sent to Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland, where he took classes in how to work on the new tanks. From there he returned to Fort Hood 2nd Armored Division and was promoted to Sergeant E5, then he was promoted to Motor Sergeant with the 1st Armored Division. His first honorable discharge was March 15, 1962. He then rejoined the US Army the next day.
After that he was sent to the 7th Army Division and onto Landshut Bavaria, Germany for three years. From there he was transferred back to Fort Benjamin in Harrison Indianapolis where he received his second honorable discharge in 1964 as a Sergeant in the US Army.
While in the army, he met and married Glenda Aucoin. They had two sons, Ken Jr. and Dave. After that, he went to work at the VA Hospital in Chillicothe, OH. He worked as a respiratory technician about 30 years but he did not have a license. At the same time, he owned and operated a pig and cattle farm with the help of his sons Ken Jr. and Dave. He took an early retirement. They moved to McComb to be near Glenda's mother who lived in LA. He went to work at West Building Supplies. There, he built doors and was known as "Mr. K."
Kenneth met and married Sherry Walker on December 14, 2002. Both of them joined Pisgah United Methodist Church. Later, they moved to Summit and became members of Open-Door Baptist Church and remained so. Kenneth was an avid fisherman. He caught lots of fish in the IC Lake, out from his mother-in-law's home. Kenneth and Sherry cooked the fish, fries, and hush puppies and took some to her mother, Catherine and her Aunt Dalpha.
Kenneth was also a skilled and talented carpenter. As a young child, age 3, he went to work with his dad who did carpenter work as well as farming. He built a beautiful hutch for Sherry and remodeled the bathroom and added a large walk-in closet, etc. while in McComb.
Later, while living in Summit, he built a podium and Lord's Table for Open Door Baptist Church, and another table for another church. He added an extra room onto the new double wide mobile home for Sherry to have an art studio. Previously, he built him a shop out back where he worked on old tractors, built doll cradles, and built bird houses.
Later they both decided to sell and move to the Claiborne. But after moving Kenneth quickly decided they were going to hire someone to build them a house to they could have more room. Because he was no longer able to build a home himself, he hired Otis and Cannon Ward, his nephews by marriage, to build them a small home.
Kenneth was a Christian who loved the Lord. He believed that the Lord would protect him, but he also believed that each person had a time to leave this earth.
