Kenneth Wayne Kramme age 78 of Calmar, passed away on Monday February 10, 2025, at Mercy One North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City, Iowa.
There will be a private family graveside service on Wednesday February 19, 2025, at 11:00 am. Ken will be laid to rest at Saint Aloysius Cemetery 304 S Maryville St, Calmar, IA.
Celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Ken was born on May 9th, 1946, in Hartley Iowa, the son of Paul and Myrtle (Lumby) Kramme. His family moved to Calmar in 1958. Ken graduated from South Winneshiek High School in 1964. Shortly after he enlisted in the United States Army for a 3year term, most of which was spent in Berlin Germany.
After his military service he returned to Calmar and married Linda Swehla. To this union, 2 children were born, Jennifer and Micheal Kramme. Ken and Linda later divorced.
Most of Ken's working life was spent at Meyer Sheet Metal in Waterloo, IA. In his early career there, he was a laborer. Later, as his rheumatoid arthritis progressed, he was trained to be the estimator for the company.
Ken lived in Waterloo during his working career, but would return to Kramme home in Calmar, every weekend. He would meticulously care for Mom's needs and the care of the property. He had a beautiful garden every year, canning and freezing all that he needed and sharing the rest. He had Mom teach him her skills of bread baking and he became a master at it. Ken retired early and permanently moved back home to care for Mom as her needs grew.
Fishing was a priority in his life. From the Upper Iowa, the Turkey, and the Mississippi rivers, Ken, along with his brothers, and his best friend John, (aka Milt) Numedahl, know every spot a fish may be in and how to catch it. Many sibling vacations were spent in Afton, Iowa, fishing the many lakes in southwest Iowa.
Ken loved Lake Meyer. He would go there every day for his daily walk until his health wouldn't let him anymore. His family will be planning an open celebration of his life at Lake Meyer in the spring.
Ken is survived by his siblings. Sisters, Karen Aschenbrenner of Cedar Falls, and Becky Monroe of Castalia. Brothers, Tim (Linda) Kramme of Stout, IA, Steve Kramme of Adel IA, and Roger (Amy) Kramme of Spillville, along with many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are his son, Micheal and his daughter, Jennifer. His parents, Paul and Myrtle (Lumby) Kramme. His brothers, David and Mark Kramme. Brothers in law, James Aschenbrenner and Dean Monroe, and his sister-in-law, Ana Kramme. His niece, Debra Halterman, and nephew Scott Kramme.
