Obituary published on Legacy.com by Britton-Wallace Funeral Home - Auburn on May 10, 2023.
Kenneth Scott "Scotty" LaBreck, 64, of Webster and Auburn, passed away on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at Saint Vincent Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. His family extends deep thanks to the doctors and nurses at St. Vincent's for their compassionate care to Scotty in recent weeks.
Scotty is survived by his devoted sister, Sue-Ann O'Connor, of Auburn; his loving aunt, Judith "Judy" Shute, of Worcester; his beloved nieces and nephew: Jamie, Julie, Edward, and Dana; and his dear great-nephews and niece: Dominic, Jack, Kaius, and Avery, along with many cousins and extended family. Scotty also leaves behind dear friends including his lifelong best friend, Robert Fogwell, and his beloved dog, Sprout. He was predeceased by his longtime partner Liz Callan, his sister, Pamela J. "Pammy" LaBreck; and their parents, Kenneth "Kenny" W. and Joan F. (Wilkins) LaBreck.
Scotty was born in Worcester and raised in Auburn, attending the Auburn School System. In 1976, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and served his country proudly until his honorable discharge. He enjoyed telling the many stories of seeing the world during his time in the Navy and the many good times he had. He was so grateful to reconnect with his old Navy buddy, Ernie, in recent years. Scotty worked a number of jobs throughout his life; he worked as a cook for many years, and most recently as a bus driver for AA Transportation serving the Webster Public Schools; this job was so meaningful to Scotty and brought him a lot of pride. He loved the kids that he drove and they loved him back.
Scotty had an unforgettable presence and lit up every room he walked into with his big smile and his jokes. He had a knack for public speaking and comedic timing and always wished he had tried his hand at stand-up. Making people laugh brought him so much joy. He loved the Red Sox and the Patriots and enjoyed going to Red Sox games with his niece, Dana. Scotty also loved his Harley motorcycle and showing it off.
He was a "good friend of Bill W." and was very involved in AA for many years. His sobriety and AA community were incredibly important to him; many dear friends along the way helped Scotty and in return, he helped many people with their own sobriety. His impact here will undoubtedly be felt for a very long time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Dog Orphans of Douglas, MA, where he found his buddy Sprout. Their website is www.dogorphans.com and their address is 90 Webster Street Douglas, MA 01516.
