Kenneth Gerald Merkey, 75, passed away on March 22nd at his home in Edmond Oklahoma, surrounded by his loved ones.
Kenneth was born on September 12th, 1948 in Cordell Oklahoma to JoElla and Samuel Merkey. He grew up in Thomas Oklahoma and graduated from Thomas High in 1966. After high school, he enlisted in the Navy where he served our country during the Vietnam War on the USS Mason Naval Ship. After he was discharged from the Navy he went to work for ADT Alarm Company and then onto the United States Postal Service where he retired after 33 years.
Kenneth will be remembered for his devotion to his wife and family, never wavering from his commitment to us all. He loved coaching Jennifer and her friends in softball for many years. His oldest granddaughter, Jessica also stole his heart, there was almost nothing he would not do for that little girl! His great love of fishing, boating, and camping will be our fondest memories. He never met a baby he didn’t love! You could always find him rocking all the grandbabies while catching a nap himself.
Kenneth is survived by his wife Margie Merkey, his daughter Jennifer Merkey (Alisha Lopez), and his bonus children of 49 years, Jeffery Rodman (Kathy Rodman), Timothy Rodman, Mike Rodman, Melissa Brunner (Jake Brunner). His grandchildren, Jessica, Cody, Austin, Lance, Autumn, Taylor, Elise, Joseph, Ashlyn, Brendan, Hailey, Grant, Grayson, and one great-grandson, Milo will all miss him dearly.
A Memorial Service will be held on March 30, 2024, at 1 PM at The House Church located at 11744 W Reno Ave, Yukon OK 73099. All friends and family are welcome to attend and celebrate his life. A lunch will be served at the church directly after the service.
Jesus said, “I am the Resurrection and the Life. The one who believes in Me will live, even
though they die”. John 11:25
