Kenneth Munk Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sims Funeral Home - Soda Springs on Jan. 6, 2025.
Kenneth Gene Munk
Pocatello, Idaho Kenneth Gene Munk, 68, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 1, 2025. Born on July 20, 1956, in Malad City, Idaho, Ken was the son of Jesse and Lois Munk. He was raised in Grace and Soda Springs.
Ken graduated from Idaho State University's welding program and furthered his education at the College of Southern Idaho, studying millwrighting. He embarked on his career in Coeur d'Alene, where he resided for several years before returning to Soda Springs. In Soda Springs, he worked for Brecker Industries. Subsequently, he moved to Mills, Wyoming, to begin his employment with Western Oil and Tool Company. While in Mills, he met and married Carla (Cline) Munk.
Early in their marriage, Ken pursued a career in construction, leading them to Southwick, Massachusetts, where he began working for Monsanto. After 5 years, Monsanto relocated the family back to Soda Springs, Idaho. He retired from Monsanto after 20 years of service.
Ken and Carla retired to Hurley, New Mexico. However, Ken's passion for his work led him to unretire and return to millwrighting, accepting a position with Freeport McMoRan Inc., from which he later retired after five years. Following the loss of their son, Aaron, they returned to Pocatello, Idaho, to raise Aaron's children.
Ken is survived by his wife, Carla Munk of Pocatello, Idaho; his daughter, Jessica (Nathan) Hobbs of Henderson, Nevada; and three grandchildren: Payton Ayers, TayLynn Ayers, and Cooper Hobbs. He is also survived by his brother, Vergil (Kim) Munk of Milton-Freewater, Oregon; his sister, Judy (Raymond) Legarretaof Gooding, Idaho; and numerous nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Aaron Ayers, his brother Donald Munk, three sisters: June Rush, JoAnn Spohnand Janice Schow, two nephews, and a niece.
A viewing will be held on January 9, 2025, from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM at the Sims Funeral Home, 139 East 2nd South in Soda Springs. The funeral services will be held on January 10, 2025. The services will begin at 11:00 AM at the Riverside Ward LDS Church 225 Oakwood Dr. Pocatello. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Payton and TayLynn Ayers at Westmark in Pocatello, ID.
