Kenneth James Schiller Obituary

Born on July 27, 1952, in Rosebud, Texas, Ken was the firstborn child of Jerome Robert (JR) and Margaret (LaVerne) Schiller. From an early age, he learned the values of hard work and responsibility, helping his father in the family's masonry business after graduating from Ross Sterling High School. He later pursued studies at the University of Texas at Austin, Hook 'em.

He worked in quality control for nearly four decades, where he not only excelled in his role but took great pride in teaching others. He believed in doing things the right way and took satisfaction in a job well done. His role model, besides his Dad, was his Uncle Bob Fitzgerald who brought him on at GE. Ken was so grateful for all his guidance.

Ken met the love of his life, Susan, on a blind date with a dozen yellow roses, a simple beginning that grew into 49 years of unwavering marriage. He and Susan were married at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church on August 21, 1976, in Houston and were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Brittany and Kimberly, who were his pride and joy.

Outside of work, Ken had a love for classic westerns, deer hunting, camping and the Texas Hill Country. There wasn't much he couldn't fix with his hands and a bit of patience. He was a jack of all trades. But above all, family was the center of his world. His grandchildren, Austin and Avery, were the light of his life-he could always be found cheering them on at school events, games, and don't forget Girl Scout Cookie season. He would be beaming with pride as he spoke about his grandkids.

Ken left a lasting impression on everyone he met. His dependable spirit, warm presence, and quiet humor made those around him feel safe and loved. He gave generously of his time and heart, and his legacy will live on in the lives he touched.

Though his passing was unexpected, his life was full and meaningful. We give thanks for the years we had with him and find comfort in knowing he is now at peace, watching over the family he held so dear.

Ken is survived by his wife, Susan; daughters, Brittany and Kimberly; grandchildren, Austin and Avery; sister, Marsha (Julie); brother, David (Maribeth); brother-in-law, Richard McBride, many beloved nieces and nephews and four special kids whom he loved and treated as his own grandchildren. He is predeceased by parents LaVerne and JR Schiller. In-laws Barbara and WD McBride, and Uncle Bob.

Rest in peace, Ken. We know you are up in heaven sitting in your La-Z-Boy, drinking a Crown Royal Apple and 7Up, while watching an Astros game.

We know in our hearts that Ken would want us to remember him with joy and celebration, not sadness.
