On August 21, 2025, Marina passed away at the age of 24. She was the first of two children of Martin and Gabriela, born on November 25, 2000, in Ciudad del Carmen, Campeche.

Marina grew up in that city, located on the Gulf of Mexico, and from 2011 she lived in Panama City, Republic of Panama, where she studied from elementary school through high school.

From an early age, Marina stood out in the arts and sports such as triathlon, and especially in dance-specifically hip-hop, a cultural and artistic movement born in African American and Latino neighborhoods in the United States. She found her energy and life expression in it, becoming part of the Hip Hop group Complot in Panama City, she toured with them several U.S. cities for international competitions.

In 2019, the family moved to Houston due to Martin's work and to promptly address the illness diagnosed at Marina's young age of 18.

Marina graduated in Political Science from the University of Houston in 2024, earning the distinction Summa Cum Laude for her academic performance. She worked for two years at the nonprofit organization Headcount.org, where she lived out her passion for music and democracy.

As acts of resilience, her favorite activities became reading. She continued dancing with some limitations, now individually at home. A music enthusiast, her playlist included musical expressions from all eras-from Nina Simone and Stevie Nicks to Billie Eilish.

She often took long walks around the lake and made frequent visits to bookstores and vinyl shops. Her favorite activities essentially transformed into literary ones.

In 2024, she began writing a book that will soon be published. It recounts epic tales rooted in her cultural and pre-Hispanic heritage, interwoven with stories of struggle, bravery, and love, surrounded by mythical creatures.

She was preceded in death by her grandmother Paty-her kindred spirit-and her dog Itzae, a loving and spoiled Beagle, who surely welcomed her: Paty with a warm and full of love hug and Itzae with his cold nose and frantically wagging tail. The family firmly believes she is now defending her opinions with arguments, as always-now dancing hip-hop, free, without limitations, expressing her love for life and letting her wonderful energy flow.

Those left to treasure her memory are her family: Martin, Gaby, and Gabriel.

She is gone, but she will never be forgotten; her memories will remain forever in our hearts.
