Kenneth Leroy Shover, born on October 30, 1941, in Monticello, Iowa, to parents George and Berniece (Sievers) Shover, was the eldest of four siblings: Vernon (Nancy), Virginia Mullen (Don), and Edward (Gerrie)
On January 15, 2025, Kenneth passed away at the age of 83 in Solon Retirement Community.
After graduating from Anamosa High School in 1961, Kenneth served his country in the army from 1963 to 1965.
On November 27, 1965, in Spragueville, IA, Kenneth and Shirley Beeck exchanged their wedding vows and would spend 50 years together. Their family expanded with the birth of their daughter Kim Herren (Scott) and son Kurt (Victoria). Kenneth, or Kenny as he was affectionately called, had a deep love for his grandchildren Scott E Herren (Prapti), Brooke Gaffney (Patrick), Brett Herren, Chanse Shover, step-grandchildren Mandy Warson (Allen), Dusty Miller (Lisa), Trevor Miller (Kim), seven great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. He was also dearly loved by numerous nieces, nephews, and their children.
Kenny's professional life began as a farmhand in Radcliffe, Iowa, and Spragueville, Iowa. He then relocated to Stone City, IA, where he served as a custodian for the Anamosa Community School district for 28 years before retiring. He was an ardent supporter of the Raiders, assisting at home football games, timing at track meets, and a regular at numerous sporting events. He took pleasure in volunteering at the Stone City Community Center and was a dedicated participant in the Grant Wood Art Festival for countless years. Kenny also spent many years selling AmsOil, which allowed him to connect with a wide array of people who became not only his customers but also his friends. He was known for his friendly disposition and never treated anyone as a stranger.
Kenny and Shirley were devout members of St Paul Lutheran church in Anamosa before they moved to assisted living in Iowa City and Solon. Despite battling Alzheimer's disease for over a decade, Kenny maintained his cheerful demeanor with his family and the staff at the care facilities.
Kenny was predeceased by his parents and his beloved wife, Shirley.
Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, March 15, 2025, at the Goettsch Funeral Home in Anamosa. Rev. Rodney Bluml will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Please use the Guestbook to share your thoughts, memories, and condolences with Kenny's family.
