Cathy Ruth Benedict

Cathy Benedict, 71, of Anamosa, died Monday October 27, 2025, at University of Iowa Healthcare in Iowa City.

Remembrance services will be held at 11 am Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at the Viola United Methodist Church in Viola, IA. Pastors Jim and Kris May will officiate. Burial will be in Wilcox Cemetery, rural Anamosa. The family will greet friends from 10 am to the time of service at the church. Cathy Ruth Behnke was born October 9, 1954, in Anamosa, the daughter of Dial and Arlene (Smith) Behnke. She attended school in Anamosa and was a member of the Anamosa High School Class of 1972. She went on to attend University of Iowa, earning her master's degree. She was employed as an accountant, then as the business manager at the Anamosa State Penitentiary. She retired in 2015 after more than 30 years of service. On November 2, 1973, she married Michael Benedict in Anamosa. He preceded her in death in 2012.

She was a member of the Viola United Methodist Church. Cathy liked to travel the world, especially enjoying cruise trips. She was an avid reader, concert goer, who liked to attend plays and the theater. She also enjoyed camping and most of all, spending time with her family.

She is survived by her son Damien, grandchildren Trevor Benedict and Kathryn Benedict, her siblings Jeff (Michelle) Behnke, and Julie (Tom) Griggs, as well as by several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a brother.
