Kenneth "Kenny" Carroll Skenes, 76, of West Columbia, SC, went to be with his Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior, on Thursday afternoon, March 6, 2025.
A service celebrating his life will be held at Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church, 1000 B Avenue, West Columbia, SC on Friday, March 14, 2025. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM followed by the service at 11:00 AM. A graveside service will be immediately following at Woodridge Memorial Gardens, Corley Mill Road, Lexington, SC.
Kenny had a love of bowling, fishing and gardening and also for his family and country. He was an avid gardener with a tremendous green thumb for his vegetables and tea roses. He enjoyed his bowling leagues and the many friends he made while bowling. He was a kind and beautiful soul to all he encountered and always used his quick wit and sense of humorto bring a smile to the faces of others. He enjoyed telling good jokes, especially good dad jokes, to his friends and family. He also had a miniature train collection that he restored from his childhood and built an addition onto his house to set up a train village.
Kenny was born January 3, 1949, in Columbia, SC, and graduated from the University of South Carolina with a master's degree in marketing and a Bachelor of Science degree in business. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1969 and was stationed in the Philippines. Kenny also worked for the state of South Carolina at the Department of Transportation where he always had "highway work on his mind."
Kenny is survived by his sister, Jo Ellen Skenes Anderson, of Lexington, SC and many nieces and nephews and great/great-great nieces and nephews.
Kenny is predeceased by his Parents Frank J., Sr. & Mary Amick Skenes and his brother, Frank J. Skenes, Jr.
The pallbearers will be Mark Melton, Richard Lauber, Tommy Smith, Luther Nix, Mike Dayton and Kevin Starkey.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the following charities that Kenny expressed desire in supporting:
Tunnel to Towers, 2361 Hylan Blvd., Staten Island, NY 10306 (www.t2t.org)

Truly a "kind and beautiful soul"! I worked at SCDOT, though not directly with Kenny, but on every encounter in the building Kenny always had a kind friendly word!! Prayers of comfort and peace for the family.
