Kenneth "Ken" Wayne Spencer, Sr. 70, of Scipio, passed away at 4:24 p.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at St. Vincent Jennngs Hospital in North Vernon.

On the day of December 23rd in 1972 Kenneth "Ken" Wayne Spencer, Sr. wed the love of his life Vada Ann Smith. Years later they welcomed their first of three children, Vanessa Ann (Damian) Shepherd, Vallencia Jean (Chad) Stark and Kenneth Wayne (Heather) Spencer, Jr.

Over the next 52 years the couple shares a life of love, compassion, joys, challenges, and adventures. Together the couple enjoyed gardening, attending and coaching baseball and softball, going to plays and musicals, dinning out, and any events of their 7 grandchildren.

Ken was born April 24th in 1955 to Kenneth Samuel Spencer and Ruby (Vernal) Pruitt in Columbus, IN.

He attended Columbus North High School. He is a 29-year retiree of Nippon Pipe and Steel of America located in Seymour, IN. He is an avid golfer, who has won or placed in many golf league tournaments. It has been said by one of his colleagues, "Ken is one of the best guys I have ever known". He has been a player and head or assistant coach for baseball and softball throughout his life. He is a devoted husband, father, and friend.

Surviving with his children are his grandchildren, Kenneth Spencer III, Grace Elizabeth Stark, and Harley (Bryce) Neeley, all of North Vernon, William Shawn Stark, Destiny Star Leslie and Aiden Shepherd, all of Scipio, Kyler Leslie of Hanover, and Aron Spencer of Butlerville; and great-grandchildren, Shayley Shepherd and Athena Neeley, both of North Vernon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Vada who passed away on June 4, 2025.

A celebration of life for Kenneth and Vade will be held at 4:30 p.m. on May 2, 2026, at The Shelter at Scipio United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Scipio.

Had the pleasure of knowing Kenny through work at NSPA. Over the years became a very good friend with him. He had a heart of gold and I do not believe he never met a stranger. Such a great family man.
