Kenneth D. Stimson

Kenneth Deane Stimson, 84, of Springfield, passed away March 4, 2024 at home. Ken was born on June 5, 1939 to Harold and Hazel Stimson in Rochester, MN. He grew up in Flandreau, SD, attended public schools and graduated from high school in 1957. Ken enlisted in the United States Army in November 1957. He trained in machine accounting (early computers), had a tour of duty in South Korea and was discharged in 1960.
On June 22, 1960 he was united in marriage to Dorothy Dierks (high school sweetheart). Having been discharged in Chicago, they made their first home there and raised their family of two daughters. He spent his career managing data processing centers and later established his own business, marketing computer supplies and equipment.
In retirement, he moved to Springfield in 2005. Ken joined Redeemer Lutheran Church and participated in Eckoff Bible Study group and other church activities. He joined Heart of the Ozarks Sertoma Club. He was an avid golfer and a member of the Chicago Cubs Die-Hard Fan Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Richard and William and an infant sister Joan; sisters-in-law Doretta Spangler, Catherine Dierks, Carol Dierks, and brothers-in-law Martin Dierks, Ralph Dierks, David Dierks and Virgil Spangler.
Ken is survived by his wife Dorothy, daughters Cynthia Burgess (Trevor) Hastings, England; Cheryl Stimson, Chicago, Illinois; three grandchildren Ellen, Thomas and John Burgess; brother-in-law Richard Dierks (Sharla) Longmont, Colorado; sister-in-law Jennifer Dierks, Kansas City, Missouri and numerous nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be from 9:00 - 9:30 AM, with Memorial Service following at 9:30 AM, on Thursday, March 21, 2024 at Redeemer Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
