Kenneth Jay Thornton, 76 of Lake City, passed from this life on Tuesday, November 18, 2025 at Solaris Healthcare under the care of Haven Hospice. Kenneth was born in Jacksonville on July 18, 1949 to Jake and Lauterine (Parker) Thornton. He started at a young age as carpenter and was skilled with his hands. He would eventually go into transportation and hauled fuel for several companies, most recently with Florida Rock.
Kenneth enjoyed spending his free time outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and also enjoyed hunting. He was a fan of Florida State Football as well.
He is survived by his children Sheena (Andy) Gray of St. Augustine and Terry Thornton of Jacksonville. He was also the proud grandpa to Hudson Gray. He was also survived by a sister, Priscilla Dynesius of Jacksonville; his god son, Ronnie Thornton of Sanderson; and his beloved dog, Piper.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Chester, Russell, Jimmy, Arthur, Phillip, and Shirley.
A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Guerry Forbes Funeral Home with Chaplain Terry Yerby officiating.
