It is with tremendous love and a lifetime of fond memories that we say goodbye to Kenneth Dewyane VanNest of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Kenneth passed away from this life on October 15, 2024, at the age of 76. Born in Sentinel, Oklahoma, on August 13, 1948, Kenneth was the son of John Dewey VanNest and Dorothy Faye (Hicklin) VanNest. Both parents have preceded him in death, along with a sister, Marylyn Roselas.
Kenneth married Sheryl, the love of his life, in 1980, following a beautiful 3-year courtship. Together a total of 47 years, their union was based on shared aspirations, respect, and true love. A good, wholesome family man, Kenneth was always on the go. Whether he was having a good time with his buddies, out on his boat fishing the days away, or on a hunting trip, he loved keeping himself busy. An enthusiastic and avid outdoorsman, Kenneth spent many a weekend immersed in the great outdoors. He always enjoyed teaching the little ones in his life how to hunt and fish, showing them the various survival skills he'd learned over the years, and helping his loved ones learn the importance of appreciating and respecting the beauty of nature.
Though there were many passions he pursued, and numerous things that made him happy, nothing brought him more pride and joy than his beloved family. As we reflect on the life of Kenneth Dewayne VanNest, let us remember him for his kind heart, his strength in the face of adversity, for his dedication to his country as a Veteran of the U.S. Army, and most importantly, for the unwavering devotion he so freely displayed to the ones he loved. Kenneth will be dearly missed. May he rest in peace.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Sheryl VanNest, and three children – Christopher Lunsford, Chad Lunsford, and Clayton Haworth; his brothers, Gary VanNest and wife Jeannie, Darrell VanNest and wife Pat, and sister Carolyn Gotte and husband Cullen. Kenneth is also survived by his grandchildren, all of whom he loved so much – Christian, Caleb, Delaney, Noah, Victoria, Brock, Britni, Ava, Jude, and Dallas, in addition to many other family members and loyal friends.
