Kenneth A. West, 89, of Glyndon, MN, passed away Thursday, July 3, 2025, at St. Catherine’s North, in Fargo, ND, under care of HIA Hospice.
Ken was born on February 25, 1936, the youngest child of August and Bertha (Menge) West. He was raised on the family farm near Glyndon, MN and attended country school near Glyndon. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served a tour in Germany from 1958-1960. After completing his service, he returned home to the farm where he would work his entire life, raising dairy cows, sheep, pigs and goats. Later in life, Ken married Gwendolyn (Gwen) Johnston Pederson and they farmed and raised miniature dachshunds for many years. Gwen passed away in 2021.
Ken enjoyed his life and being on the farm. He was close to his nieces and nephews while they were young, and they fondly remember his wonderful sense of humor and warm hugs.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, August and Bertha West, and all his siblings, Frank West, Boyd West (infant brother), Doris Blakeway, Alice VanTassel, Florence West, Lyle West, Ross West, Rusty West and Thomas West. He is survived by many nieces and nephews and Gwen’s children, Suzanne (Pederson) Utoh and Steven Pederson, as well as their families.
The family will hold a memorial service at a later date.
